Scaramucci: A Large Coalition of People Including Me Will Stop Supporting Trump Over RacismBy Ken MeyerJul 18th, 2019, 8:33 am
Former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci warned President Donald Trump Thursday that he and many other supporters will abandon him if he continues to engage in racist rhetoric.
-snip-
Would you still support him? Camerota asked. If he continues with these tweets, he would lose your support?
not just my support, Scaramucci answered. He has friends of his in the White House that are working for him that are telling reporters These tweets are racist, but I cant say anything because I got to keep my job.'
This led to Camerota pressing Scaramucci on what exactly is his breaking point if he truly believes Trumps remarks are racist. Heres a taste of how that went:
Camerota: It is a moral question.
Scarmucci: For me it will eventually be a moral question. But hes not a racist.
Camerota: But his Tweets are racist.
Scaramucci: The Tweets are racist, yeah. . And by the way the friends would tell him the truth would tell him the tweets are racist. But again, I dont believe hes a racist."

'Send her back!' chant shows Trump's ugly plan to get reelected
Analysis by Stephen Collinson, CNN
Updated 3:55 AM ET, Thu July 18, 2019
Washington (CNN)In a moment of unrestrained demagoguery, President Donald Trump presided Wednesday over a crowd chanting "Send her back! Send her back!" about an American Muslim congresswoman who he targeted with racist attacks.
The scenes at a North Carolina rally provided an ugly overture to a 2020 election campaign already soaked in hate. They exemplified the tribal politics and white nationalism that Trump is making clear he plans to ride to reelection, no matter their impact on America's fragile societal harmony.
The chants of "Send her back!" referred to Somalia-born, American citizen Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, one of four minority lawmakers attacked by Trump over the weekend. The invective from the crowd replaced the "Lock her up!" and "Build the wall!" chants of Trump's first campaign with a jarring racial refrain that the commander-in-chief, speaking from behind a podium bearing the symbolic presidential seal, made no effort to stop.
Reinforcing days of attacks on the four progressive Democratic women, known as "The Squad" on Capitol Hill, Trump questioned their patriotism and highlighted some of their controversial comments on issues including Israel, law enforcement and the September 11th terrorist attacks, in some cases distorting their records.
"They don't love our country. They are so angry," Trump said, lambasting the group as "hate filled extremists."

Trump leans on issue of race in bid for a 2nd term in 2020
By STEVE PEOPLES and ZEKE MILLER
NEW YORK (AP) President Donald Trump has placed racial animus at the center of his reelection campaign, and even some of his critics believe it could deliver him a second term.
Every successful modern presidential campaign has been built on the notion of addition, winning over voters beyond core supporters. But Trump has chosen division on the belief that the polarized country he leads will simply choose sides over issues like race.
He intensified his attacks on Wednesday, blasting four young congresswomen of color during a rally in Greenville, North Carolina . The crowd responded by chanting, Send her back! echoing Trumps weekend tweet in which he said the lawmakers, all American citizens, should go back to the countries from which they came.
I do think I am winning the political fight, Trump declared at the White House. I think I am winning it by a lot.
Not since George Wallaces campaign in 1968 has a presidential candidate and certainly not an incumbent president put racial polarization at the center of his call to voters. Though Trumps comments generated outrage and even a resolution of condemnation in the House, the president and his campaign believe the strategy carries far more benefits than risks.

Senate Republicans pray Trump will take budget deal
Trump has balked at previous bipartisan agreements, and hard-line conservatives are sure to pressure the president.
By BURGESS EVERETT, JOHN BRESNAHAN and GABBY ORR 07/18/2019 05:03 AM EDT
Congress and the White House are moving toward an ambitious budget deal, but the big question still remains: What will President Donald Trump do?
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Republican senators are pushing Trump to accept an agreement with Democrats that would avoid stiff budget cuts, steer clear of a potential default and provide a huge measure of certainty through the presidential campaign.
Trump has been warm to the proposal as its taken shape, according to multiple senators who have spoken with him in recent days. But GOP backers of a deal fear a last-ditch push from hard-line conservatives inside the administration and Congress to reject any bipartisan compromise.
So as Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin close in on a deal that would keep shutdowns and credit scares off the table, Senate Republicans arent taking any chances particularly after the longest shutdown in U.S. history occurred just six months ago.
Ive talked to him about it. Hes supportive, said Sen. David Perdue (R-Ga.), a close Trump ally, who conceded theres still a measure of uncertainty over what the president will do. I think he would support that. I never speak for the president. It depends on whats in there.
There's plenty of reason to be concerned.

Will Netanyahu Bar Ilhan Omar from Entering Israel?
July 18, 2019 at 6:24 am EDT By Taegan Goddard
A government official told The Jerusalem Post on Thursday that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahus National Security Council was reviewing the issue and would offer him recommendations on how to respond.
According to the dry law, Omar, whose legislation explicitly calls for the boycott of Israel, could be denied entry to Israel. However, due to her status as a US congresswoman, Israel is unlikely to use the legislation which if done, could spark an international crisis.
Playbook: Wes have to imagine Trump would be pretty pleased if his friend and ally Benjamin Netanyahu declined to allow Omar and Tlaib the presidents enemies, at the moment into Israel. This could cause a diplomatic row, though, since Omar and Tlaib are elected federal officials.

Obama and Clinton's bundlers are betting on these 3 candidates
The biggest fundraisers in the Democratic Party have identified early favorites as the 2020 candidates jockey for resources.
By MAGGIE SEVERNS 07/18/2019 05:01 AM EDT
Big-money Democratic donors have jumped off the sidelines of the presidential race, and three candidates are the clear winners of their support: Joe Biden, Pete Buttigieg and Kamala Harris.
Each of those three candidates received more than 220 donations from top fundraisers who helped raise at least $100,000 (and sometimes many multiples more) for Hillary Clintons 2016 campaign or at least $50,000 for Barack Obama in 2012, according to a POLITICO analysis of Federal Election Commission data. Members of this group of nearly 2,000 so-called bundlers have tapped their personal networks in the past to collectively raise tens of millions of dollars for Democratic campaigns.
But while top Democratic fundraisers donated more money in the second quarter than in the slow first three months of the race, many are no closer to choosing a single candidate: Close to 40 percent of the 810 bundlers who have donated to a 2020 Democrat so far have given to more than one candidate.
And while the Democratic field has largely fought to be the party of small-dollar donors in 2020, Biden, Buttigieg and Harris in particular have hustled for bundler support behind closed doors during the early months of the campaign.

Ocasio-Cortez offers encouragement to those 'scared for our future' after Trump rally
BY TAL AXELROD - 07/18/19 07:20 AM EDT
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) turned to social media to offer encouragement to those scared for our future after President Trump targeted the first-term lawmaker and three progressive colleagues at a rally Wednesday evening.
https://twitter.com/AOC/status/1151715570347368450
Trump used his rally in North Carolina to hammer four progressive congresswomen of color known as the squad with whom he has carried on an escalating feud in recent days.
In the middle of a diatribe against Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), a naturalized U.S. citizen who came to the U.S. as a refugee from Somalia, the crowd broke into chants of send her back.

Trump also mocked Ocasio-Cortez by refusing to call her by her full name, saying Well call her Cortez. Too much time.

Trump's USDA buried sweeping climate change response plan
Source: Politico
By HELENA BOTTEMILLER EVICH 07/18/2019 07:31 AM EDT
The Agriculture Department quashed the release of a sweeping plan on how to respond to climate change that was finalized in the early days of the Trump administration, according to a USDA employee with knowledge of the decision.
Staff members across several USDA agencies drafted the multiyear plan that outlines how the department should help agriculture understand, adapt to and minimize the effects of climate change.
Top officials, however, decided not to release the plan and told staff members to keep it for internal use only, the employee told POLITICO. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity out of fear of retribution.
The goal was to map out the science that USDA needs to pursue over the next five to eight years for the department to meet the needs of the nation, according to the plan, a copy of which was shared with POLITICO.

Devin Nunes' fundraising is off the charts for 2020. Who's giving to the congressman?
BY KATE IRBY
JULY 18, 2019 07:58 AM
WASHINGTON
Rep. Devin Nunes revved up his fundraising in the second quarter of this year, hauling in far more money than any other incumbent in a district on the opposing partys top target list for 2020.
Nunes, R-Tulare, raised nearly $1.9 million for the quarter, bringing his total fundraising so far for the year to more than $3 million. Freshman Rep. Katie Porter, D-Irvine, raised the second most of candidates in targeted races nationwide, with about $1 million this quarter.
Nunes has about $5.6 million in cash on hand, another number that blows most candidates out of the water.
So who is contributing to Nunes campaign?
A small portion of Nunes donations come from within his district. About 4.3%, or just less than $80,000, came from his constituents this quarter, according to a McClatchy analysis of public Federal Election Commission records.
About twice that amount, around $160,000, came from the Washington, D.C., metro area, mostly from interest groups and and corporate political action committees.
Many of those corporate or company PACs are associated with the health care industry, including pharmaceutical companies such as Pfizer.
Broken down by state, California was the largest contributor to Nunes. Californians gave more than $340,000 to Nunes, with about $260,000 coming from outside his Central California district.

Times Investigation: Homeland Security has gutted programs aimed at detecting weapons of mass destruction
By DAVID WILLMANSTAFF WRITER
JULY 18, 2019 5 AM
WASHINGTON The Trump administration has quietly dismantled or cut back multiple programs that were created after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks to help detect and prevent terrorism involving weapons of mass destruction, a Times investigation has found.
The retreat has taken place over the last two years at the Department of Homeland Security, which has primary domestic responsibility for helping authorities identify and block potential chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear threats.
The changes, not previously reported, were made without rigorous review of potential security vulnerabilities, The Times found, undermining government-wide efforts aimed at countering terrorist attacks involving unconventional weapons, known as WMD.
More than 30 current and former Homeland Security employees and contractors voiced concern that the changes including the cancellation of dozens of training exercises and the departure of scores of scientists and policy experts have put Americans at greater risk.
