Trump Donors Funnel $10.5 Million Into His Businesses

December 28, 2020 at 7:48 am EST By Taegan Goddard

“President Trump’s donors — the vast majority of whom are working-class supporters and retirees contributing just a few dollars a month — put $10.5 million into the erstwhile billionaire’s own personal businesses over the course of his presidency,” a HuffPost analysis found.

“Some $8.5 million came from the Trump campaign and related entities that Trump controls directly. Another $2 million came from other Republican candidates and committees.”

Trump Hits Magazines for Not Giving Melania Cover Shot

December 26, 2020 at 11:51 am EST By Taegan Goddard

President Trump criticized glossy US magazines for not offering his wife Melania Trump a single cover shoot while he has been in office, Business Insider reports.

Trump retweeted a Breitbart post that said “elitist snobs in the fashion press” were snubbing the “most elegant First Lady in American history.”

Fox News' post-Trump identity crisis, explained by an expert

We talked to Matt Gertz of Media Matters about Trump’s one-sided feud with Fox, the rise of OAN and Newsmax, and where right-wing cable news is headed.

By Aaron Rupar@atrupar Dec 25, 2020, 8:00am EST

As its main meal ticket prepares to leave office, Fox News is struggling through an identity crisis.

For the better part of five years, Fox and Donald Trump have enjoyed a symbiotic relationship. Trump’s habitual watching of Fox and the willingness both he and other administration officials have had to be interviewed on Fox News and Fox Business brought the network to unprecedented heights of relevance, while Fox has helped Trump by defending him through thick and thin.

But Trump’s relationship with Fox hasn’t been all sunshine and rainbows. Even while the vast majority of the network’s programming did his bidding in one way or another, Trump has repeatedly lashed out at Fox in recent years for coverage he deems insufficiently fawning — and the one-sided feud has escalated dramatically since his loss to Joe Biden.

“On a fundamental level Fox has been operating as a propaganda arm of President Trump, but the president has never really been satisfied with the level of obsequiousness he sometimes sees when he turns on his television,” Matt Gertz, senior fellow at Media Matters for America, told me.

Things came to a boiling point in the days following the election. Fox News’s “news side,” such as it is, was among the first on election night to call Arizona for Joe Biden. Its decision to do so sent President Donald Trump into a rage. Though the state didn’t end up being central to most networks’ decisions to call the race for Joe Biden, it was a symbolic turning point during a night that quickly went from hopeful to sour for the president. He’s spent the past six weeks seemingly more focused on settling scores with Fox News than he has been on the coronavirus pandemic.

Biden says Russian-linked cyberattack started "last year"

Mike Allen, author of AM

President-elect Biden said during his remarks in Wilmington on Tuesday that the Russia-tied cyberattack, which formerly was known to go back to as early as March, began "at least last year."

Why it matters: An administration source verified the earlier breach date — compounding the work and expense involved in rooting out the intruders, discovering what was lost and fixing for the future.

Details: The hack is known to have breached the Departments of Defense, State, Homeland Security, Treasury, Commerce and Energy and its National Nuclear Security Administration — plus the National Institutes of Health.

Multiple global corporations were also infiltrated.

Our thought bubble: There’s a lot we still don’t know, but the growing list of key federal agencies struck alone is cause for serious concern. This may turn out to be the most consequential hack in U.S. history, and one that has spurred lawmakers of both parties to call for a firm response.

Trump Completes His Russian Collusion Cover Up

December 24, 2020 at 9:29 am EST By Taegan Goddard

Jonathan Chait: “The official White House statement justifying the pardon of Paul Manafort explains that his prosecution ‘was premised on the Russian collusion hoax.’ But Trump’s pardon — a ploy so well signaled its inevitability was clear even before he stepped into the Oval Office and that he has floated for years to keep Manafort quiet — is the final proof the Russia investigation was not a hoax but a scandal Trump used his powers to thwart.”

“Trump has already pardoned Michael Flynn and commuted the sentence of Roger Stone, both of whom lied to investigators to protect him. The Manafort pardon is the final piece of his Russiagate cover-up.”

Elie Honig: “Every significant Mueller defendant who refused to cooperate (or started but then stopped) has now been pardoned.”

“Only Rick Gates and Michael Cohen — both of whom testified publicly, in court or Congress — have not been pardoned.”

As Americans Wait for Covid Relief, Trump Starts Christmas Eve Tweeting Outrageous Voter Fraud Lies From Mar-a-Lago

By Tommy ChristopherDec 24th, 2020, 9:03 am

President Donald Trump started his morning Christmas Eve by tweeting videos filled with outrageous lies about voter fraud, as Americans wait to the effects of his 11th-hour intervention in Covid relief negotiations.

-snip-

But on Thursday morning, his attempt to overthrow the election he’s lost over and over to President-elect Joe Biden was top of mind, as he tweeted Trump campaign ads that were chock full of lies, as well as a string of bizarre humblebrags about how he got the most votes of any candidate who isn’t Joe Biden, the guy who beat him with million more votes.

Those tweets were immediately labeled, by Twitter, with the now-familiar disclaimer “! This claim about election fraud is disputed.”

Exclusive: As Trump leaves office, 50% of Americans see him as a 'failed' president

Source: USA Today

USA TODAY

President Donald Trump leaves the White House next month with the country more sharply divided than when he moved in and amid caustic assessments of his record in office, a new USA TODAY/Suffolk University Poll finds.

Fifty percent of Americans now predict history will judge him as a "failed" president.

The survey, taken in the waning weeks of his administration, shows the risks of actions he is contemplating on his way out the door. Americans overwhelmingly say issuing a preemptive pardon for himself would be an abuse of presidential power, and an even bigger majority, including most Republicans, say he should attend President-elect Joe Biden's inauguration to demonstrate the peaceful transfer of power.

Trump hasn't announced whether he will attend the inauguration Jan. 20, and White House officials say he has been weighing pardons for himself and family members. On Tuesday, he issued 20 politically charged pardons and commutations, with more expected to follow. Much of his energy since the Nov. 3 election has been spent seeking ways to overturn the results, making allegations of widespread fraud.

Trump supporters meltdown after poll shows half the country thinks he's a failed president

December 24, 2020
Brad Reed

A new USA TODAY/Suffolk University poll has found that 50 percent of Americans consider President Donald Trump to be a failure -- but his supporters are not buying it.

In fact, the poll not only shows that half the country thinks Trump had a failed presidency, but even bigger majorities are opposed to two high-profile actions he's reportedly considering taking in the waning days of his presidency.

"Americans overwhelmingly say issuing a preemptive pardon for himself would be an abuse of presidential power, and an even bigger majority, including most Republicans, say he should attend President-elect Joe Biden's inauguration to demonstrate the peaceful transfer of power," writes USA Today.

Despite this, Trump supporters are still in deep denial about the unpopularity of the man who lost the 2020 presidential election by more than 7 million votes.
