The White House no longer minces words. President Obama's administration is using the freedom that comes with not having to run for another election to maximal effect.
The White House called out Donald Trump specifically and the GOP generally for their support of prejudice and intolerance in their policies and actions. This was triggered by Trump's silence after a supporter made offensive remarks towards Muslims and the president.
The White House was specific. And it had prescient advice for the GOP that it should heed.
"People who hold these offensive views are part of Mr. Trump's base," said Josh Earnest. "Mr. Trump himself would be the first to tell you that he's got the biggest base of any Republican politician these days. Now it is too bad that he wasn't able to summon the same kind of patriotism that we saw from Senator McCain, who responded much more effectively and directly when one of his supporters at one of his campaign events made the same kind of false claims.
Now what is also unfortunate is that Mr. Trump isn't the first Republican politician to countenance these kinds of views in order to win votes. In fact, that is precisely what every Republican presidential candidate is doing when they decline to denounce Mr. Trump's cynical strategy, because they are looking for those same votes.
Now other Republicans have successfully used this strategy as well. You will recall that one Republican congressman told a reporter that he was David Duke without the baggage. That congressman was elected by a majority of his colleagues in the House of Representatives to the third highest-ranking position in the House. Those same members of Congress blocked immigration reform. Those same members of Congress oppose reauthorization of the Voting Rights Act. Those same members of Congress couldn't support a simple funding bill because they are eager to defend the confederate flag.
I would like to think GOP heads would explode over these comments, but I think they embrace their racist views.
White House All But Calls GOP Racist

CNNs Wednesday night Republican debate, with its emphasis on personal animosity and weird answers about women on the $10 bill, provided plenty of entertainment value for political junkies and late night hosts. But the most consequential moment of the evening was a jaw-dropper of a lie that Jeb Bush told during one of the boring stretches in the middle of the three-hour slog.
In a bit of ugly sparring over who did or did not support the Iraq War, Jeb Bush, in a moment of pique, jumped in with, You know what? As it relates to my brother, there is one thing I know for sure, he kept us safe.
The audience, comprised of Republican primary voters went nuts, and so Bush doubled down on his claim that having 3,000 citizens die from a terrorist attack -- the largest in American history -- kept us safe."
The greatest single lie of last night's blowhard fest. Arbusto Shrub failed miserably in his duties as CinC. Shrub ignored threats, wondered America while the U.S. was burning, then told everyone to duct tape their house and go shopping.
No, a thousand times No, Shrub You Failed in Your Mission to Keep America Safe

Dangers of second hand smoke
Just drove into a gas station where a tracker trailer was delivering fuel and watched a guy walk right by it while smoking.

The Reich Wing "debaters" keep saying ISIS is an existential threat to the U.S.
Sheesh--in 1943 facing the Imperial Japanese Navy and 300 Divisions brought forth by the Nazis these guys would have crapped the bed.

Just caught the wide audience shot of the Reich Wing debate...
it looked like a family reunion for Homer Simpson.

ROME On the eve of a trip to the United States, Pope Francis has called himself a son of immigrants and confirmed the point by issuing a blunt warning to any religious orders in Europe that spurn his recent call to open their doors to refugees because they want to make money off their properties instead.
What? Refugees instead of B and Bs or bingo. The Pope is violating someone's religious freedom.
The Pope says if you don't use your religious property for religious purposes than pay taxes

Kemp, smiling ear-to-ear as Hoffman patted him on the back, pondered that. How could a club that played its 7,444th game on Friday never have had anyone hit for the cycle?
Not even the great Tony Gywnn had hit for the cycle.
Padre hits for the cycle for the first time in club history. It took 7444 games.

"Davis put her hand on the Constitution and swore to uphold the Bible." A correct appraisal.
