(CNN)Former Vice President Joe Biden's announcement of a bid for the Democratic presidential nomination earned him an 11-point polling bounce, leaving him head and shoulders above the rest of the Democratic candidates.
A new CNN poll conducted by SSRS after Biden's announcement on Thursday shows 39% of voters who are Democrats or Democratic-leaning independents saying he is their top choice for the nomination, up from 28% who said the same in March.
That puts Biden more than 20 points ahead of his nearest competitor, Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont -- who holds 15% support in the poll -- and roughly 30 points ahead of the next strongest candidate, Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren (8%).

Monmouth Prez Poll: Biden Still the Leader with 27%; Booker Tied with Hickenlooper at 2%

In a field of 24 announced and potential contenders, Joe Biden currently has the support of 27% of Democrats and Democratic-leaning voters, which is similar to his 28% support in March and 29% in January, according to this morning’s Monmouth University Poll. Support for Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders is currently at 20%, which is down slightly from 25% in March, but still higher than his 16% support in January.
“If Biden does enter the race this week, he starts off with a fairly stable amount of good will from Democrats. We might even expect to see a small bump after his announcement, but the bigger question will be what happens when those voters start taking a closer look at him on the campaign trail. It’s a long way to Iowa and a lot can happen,” said Murray.
South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg currently has 8% support. He registered less than 1% in prior Monmouth polls. California Sen. Kamala Harris has 8% support, off just slightly from 10% in March and 11% in January. Rounding out the field of top contenders are Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren at 6% (from 8% in both March and January) and former Texas Congressman Beto O’Rourke at 4% (6% in March and 7% in January).
Others who score at least 1% include New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker (2%, from 5% in March and 4% in January), former Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper (2%, from 1% in priorpolls), Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar (1%, from 3% in March and 2% in January), and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio (1%, from 1% in March). The remaining 14 names asked about in the survey receive support from less than 1% of Democratic voters at this time, which is basically unchanged from their support levels in prior national Monmouth polls.

Dévoilé samedi soir par la ministre des Armées Florence Parly, l'hommage de l'équipage du porte-avions Charles-de-Gaulle à Notre-Dame de Paris a été applaudi par le public venu assisté au Grand concert, diffusé sur France 2.
Des photos tweetées, hier à 22h41, avec ce message : «alors qu'ils sont déployés en océan Indien dans le cadre la mission #Clemenceau, les marins du porte-avions Charles de Gaulle témoignent leur solidarité à Paris, leur ville marraine.»

PARIS — A procession of clergy dressed in white carried a simple black cross through the streets of Île St. Louis on Friday, continuing a Good Friday ritual even while the charred hulk of Notre Dame Cathedral loomed behind them.
Thousands of Parisians and visitors gathered for the “stations of the cross” devotion, a symbolic reenactment of Christ’s passion that commemorates the trajectory from his sentencing to his burial in 14 stops.

"The only thing I’m sure of is that God always gets good from evil,” Aupetit said in a Friday interview with la Croix, a French Catholic newspaper.
“At the foot of the cross, when everything was over, someone was standing: it was Notre Dame,” he said, referring to the Virgin Mary, the namesake of the cathedral, who was present for her son’s crucifixion. “And on the third day, Christ is risen. From the death of his son, God brought for the good: his resurrection and the salvation of all men.”

But nearby, the “bouquinistes,” the booksellers lining the banks of the Seine, were propped in their folding chairs, checking their mobile phones and waiting for customers. Because the weather was finally warm, young people were sunbathing on the riverbank. Some gazed up to the road in curiosity as Latin incantations boomed from the loudspeakers.
Four days after the fire that brought the city to a shocked standstill, Paris had resumed doing what it does on a spring afternoon.

Depuis mardi, le roman de Victor Hugo Notre-Dame de Paris est numéro un des ventes sur Amazon. Écrit en 1831 et maintes fois adapté au cinéma, le chef-d'œuvre se situe en 1482 au moment du règne de Louis XI. Un passage du roman attire particulièrement l'attention ces derniers jours et semble aujourd'hui prémonitoire. « Tous les yeux s'étaient levés vers le haut de l'église. Ce qu'ils voyaient était extraordinaire. Sur le sommet de la galerie la plus élevée, plus haut que la rosace centrale, il y avait une grande flamme qui montait entre les deux clochers avec des tourbillons d'étincelles, une grande flamme désordonnée et furieuse dont le vent emportait par moments un lambeau dans la fumée », écrit Hugo.
L'écrivain fait de la cathédrale la véritable héroïne de son roman avec un objectif : réhabiliter un monument tombé en décrépitude. « Sans doute, c'est encore aujourd'hui un majestueux et sublime édifice que l'église de Notre-Dame de Paris », écrit-il dans le chapitre intitulé « Notre-Dame ». « Mais, ajoute-t-il, si belle qu'elle se soit conservée en vieillissant, il est difficile de ne pas soupirer, de ne pas s'indigner devant des dégradations, des mutilations sans nombre que simultanément le temps et les hommes ont fait subir au vénérable monument, sans respect pour Charlemagne qui avait posé la première pierre, pour Philippe-Auguste qui en avait posé la dernière ». La publication du livre, qui connut un grand succès public, attira l'attention générale sur l'état « inadmissible » du monument. Le mouvement d'opinion aboutit à la décision d'établir un concours auquel participèrent de nombreux architectes, dont Jean-Baptiste-Antoine Lassus et Eugène Viollet-le-Duc, dont le projet de réhabilitation du monument fut retenu en 1844.
Ce roman connu et lu dans le monde entier fait l'objet de multiples éditions. En juin 2016, les éditions des Saint-Pères publient un volumineux coffret de deux livres qui reproduisent le texte orignal et manuscrit de Hugo ainsi que des gravures provenant de deux livres sortis en 1882 et qui rassemblaient eux-mêmes les plus belles illustrations des différentes éditions du livre. « Nous avions alors sélectionné les gravures une par une et nous les avions replacées dans le manuscrit en fonction de l'avancement du récit », se souvient Nicolas Tretiakow, cofondateur de cette maison d'édition. Une double page prend aujourd'hui un sens nouveau : on y voit Notre Dame en feu (sur la gravure, page de droite). Les deux jets qui coulent sur l'image sont ceux du plomb fondu qui descend sur le parvis. Sur la moitié gauche, on peut lire (il faut un bon zoom ou de bons yeux) le désormais fameux passage sur l'incendie ainsi qu'une extrapolation très hugolienne : « Deux jets de plomb fondu tombaient du haut de l'édifice au plus épais de la cohue. Cette mer d'hommes venait de s'affaisser sous le métal bouillant qui avait fait, aux deux points où il tombait, deux trous noirs et fumants dans la foule, comme ferait de l'eau chaude dans la neige.
À l'image des autres versions, cette édition de luxe (250 euros) se vend comme des petits pains ! Plusieurs dizaines d'exemplaires chaque jour pour un ouvrage qui n'avait été imprimé qu'à 1 000 unités et qui n'est disponible que sur Internet ! De son côté, Folio (filiale de Gallimard) vient d'ordonner un nouveau tirage de 30 000 exemplaires du roman. Le Livre de Poche (groupe Hachette) a prévu de réimprimer de son côté 23 000 exemplaires du roman de Victor Hugo. Les deux maisons ainsi que Pocket ont annoncé qu'elles affecteraient une partie du produit de ces ventes à la reconstruction de la charpente et du toit de la cathédrale.

Philippe Villeneuve, architecte en chef chargé des travaux à la cathédrale Notre-Dame, tient le coq rescapé de la fournaise.
Le ministère de la Culture confirme au Parisien que la célèbre girouette a été retrouvée mardi soir, « cabossée mais vraisemblablement restaurable ».
Miracle. On la pensait brûlée, fondue dans le brasier. La girouette fixée en haut de la flèche de Notre-Dame de Paris, tombée lundi soir pendant l’incendie, a finalement été retrouvée mardi soir.
« Le coq a été sauvé. J’ai vu l’architecte en chef des monuments historiques descendre avec le coq dans les bras, a confié au Parisien une source au ministère de la Culture. Il est cabossé mais vraisemblablement restaurable. Comme, il est enfoncé, on n’a pas encore pu vérifier si les reliques s’y trouvent encore ».
C’est un des restaurateurs chargés de fouiller les décombres qui a fait l’heureuse découverte. Jacques Chanut, président de la Fédération française du bâtiment, a partagé une photo du coq cette fois aux bras de Philippe Villeneuve, l'architecte en chef des MH, en charge des travaux de rénovation de Notre-Dame.
