Preach it Joe! Biden: Romney wants war with Syria, Iran
By PHILIP ELLIOTT, Associated Press 27 minutes ago
YORK, Pa. (AP) Vice President Joe Biden said Sunday that Republican rival Mitt Romney is "ready to go to war in Syria and Iran" while hurting the middle class.
The warning came during a campaign stop in York, Pa., designed to promote President Barack Obama's economic policies among white, working-class voters. The thrust of Biden's pitch has been that America is digging out from the 2008 economic collapse and that Romney would take the country backward. But Biden, a foreign policy heavyweight, also cautioned voters that Romney would adopt a foreign policy that favors confrontation over cooperation.
"He said it was a mistake to end the war in Iraq and bring all of our warriors home," Biden said of Romney. "He said it was a mistake to set an end date for our warriors in Afghanistan and bring them home. He implies by the speech that he's ready to go to war in Syria and Iran. "
Romney has forcefully criticized Obama on foreign policy, particularly in the Middle East. He has faulted Obama for allowing the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad to remain in power and has pledged to defend U.S. ally Israel, even if that means strikes on Iran's suspected nuclear facilities.

Hillary Clinton supports president on Syria
Source: NBC news
By Andrea Mitchell and Carrie Dann, NBC News
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton supports President Barack Obamas planned strong and targeted response to reported chemical weapons use by Syrian president Bashar Assad, an aide tells NBC News.
Secretary Clinton supports the president's effort to enlist the Congress in pursuing a strong and targeted response to the Assad regime's horrific use of chemical weapons," said a senior aide to Clinton in her camps first response since the president laid out his plan to seek congressional approval for a strike.
Clinton, who left the State Department in February, had been noticeably quiet on the Syrian conflict and had faced increasing calls to weigh in. She is widely considered a top contender for the 2016 Democratic nomination, and if she runs the case for her presidency is likely to be built largely on her performance as the nations top diplomat.
She drew criticism for tweeting over the weekend about swimmer Diana Nyads history-making journey from Cuba to Florida while remaining mum on her assessment of the Obama strategy.

Wonder why she did this through a spox?
What will Obama do if Congress rejects his request, asked Sen. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz.
Kerry said he couldn't say because he hasn't told me.
But the president retains the authority to strike at Syria, even absent lawmakers consent, Kerry said.

Microsoft to Buy Nokia’s Devices Business for 5.44 Billion Euros
Source: Bloomberg
Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) agreed to pay 5.44 billion euros ($7.2 billion) for Nokia Oyj (NOK1V)s devices business and license patents as the Finnish company, once the biggest maker of mobile phones, struggles to maintain market share.
The deal includes paying 3.79 billion euros for the devices unit and 1.65 billion euros for patents, the companies said in a statement today. Nokia Chief Executive Officer Stephen Elop will step aside to return to Microsoft, they said.
Nokia is coping with cash-flow challenges stemming from weaker demand as its phones lose share to devices from Apple Inc. and handsets using Google Inc.s Android operating system. Elop has cut more than 20,000 jobs and suspended the companys dividend in January in an attempt to improve its finances.
After a thorough assessment of how to maximize shareholder value, including consideration of a variety of alternatives, we believe this transaction is the best path forward for Nokia and its shareholders, Chairman Risto Siilasmaa said in a statement.
Siilasmaa will become interim CEO of Nokia.
Nokia reported in July a 27 percent drop in the number of handsets sold in the second quarter. Its lost more than 5 billion euros in nine quarters.
