"I look forward in coming weeks to continued discussion between the two campaigns."

The two items that caught my attention from Sanders' speech last night:

"I look forward in coming weeks to continued discussion between the two campaigns"

and

"Defeating Donald Trump cannot be our only goal."

http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2016/06/bernie-sanders-speech-fight-convention-hillary-clinton

It's going to be interesting to see how this plays out. I know that as of Monday, DU isn't going to allow discussion of a Sanders "campaign," but discussion of Sanders will be allowed (see "Announcements" and "ATA&quot .

I also know the anger generated here by his reference to "the two campaigns."

I have no idea of what that's going to look like. I have no idea of how his current activities can be discussed, given his intention to go to the convention and the full content of his speech last night, without violating the new rules. I don't imagine that 100% of his supporters will go silent after the clock ticks past 11:59 PM on Sunday night.

There's been a lot of discussion about Republicans moving away from Trump and towards Clinton. And that is great in terms of Clinton getting votes and defeating Trump, but maybe not so great in terms of this paragraph (same link as above):

Noting that he had recently met with his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton, Sanders made clear that he would not drop out of the presidential race anytime soon. "I look forward in coming weeks to continued discussion between the two campaigns," he said, adding that he wanted to make certain that the Democratic Party passes the most progressive platform in its history and becomes "a party of working people and young people and not just wealthy campaign contributors."

I don't see Republicans signing up for any of that, and if they are drawn to the Clinton campaign, you can draw your own conclusions as to what that means in a larger sense of her as the Democratic candidate. For some, it's a clear sign that her campaign has universal appeal. Others don't see it that way. I don't think she's offering "the most progressive platform in history." It may be the platform we end up with from 2017-2020. What happens during, and after, that time is anyone's guess.

"RNC Chairman Reince Priebus' office did not immediately respond to a request for comment." BWAHAHA!

"We have to have our Republicans either stick together or let me just do it by myself. I'll do very well. I'm going to do very well. OK? I'm going to do very well. A lot of people thought I should do that anyway, but I'll just do it very nicely by myself," Trump said, though he did not elaborate on what doing it "by myself" would mean.

The presumptive Republican presidential nominee also accused his party's leaders of being weak and told them to "please be quiet."

"You know the Republicans, honestly folks, our leaders, our leaders have to get tougher," Trump said during a rally in Atlanta. "Our leaders have to get a lot tougher. And be quiet. Just please be quiet. Don't talk. Please be quiet. Just be quiet to the leaders because they have to get tougher, they have to get sharper, they have to get smarter."

RNC Chairman Reince Priebus' office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

CHESTER, S.C. -- The York Technical College in Chester was placed on lockdown Thursday afternoon due to a reported "dangerous situation" on campus.

Scott Walker: Job approval low (39%) because the headlines are always negative

Scott Walker: Job approval low because the headlines are always negative

http://host.madison.com/wsj/news/local/govt-and-politics/scott-walker-job-approval-low-because-the-headlines-are-always/article_5f9c3f40-7d31-5d57-9174-8ab42a8dba5b.html

The latest Marquette Law School Poll found those who viewed his job performance favorably dipped below 40 percent again after it had climbed above that threshold in March.

Respondents also viewed the state’s direction and budget situation more negatively than positively, though the trend is moving in a positive direction.

Asked about why that might be during a phone call with reporters from Mexico where he is leading a trade mission, Walker blamed the media.

“The headlines are always about negative and bad things so it’s no wonder that people feel that way in the polls,” Walker said.

Brock Turner's ex: He's "kind, loving, respectful, relaxed, silently hilarious and determined"

Lydia Pocisk, who dated the former Stanford swimmer, described him as a “kind, loving, respectful, relaxed, silently hilarious and determined individual” in court documents from Turner’s trial, obtained by the Los Angeles Times. The pair had been friends for years, according to Pocisk’s statement, but began dating during high school.

Turner, who has become the latest face of college rape culture, was given a controversial light sentence on June 2 for sexually assaulting an unconscious woman behind a dumpster in 2015.

“The fact I am even writing this letter is something I never saw coming, or could ever imagine, this in itself I believe to speak numbers,” wrote Pocisk. “You would think a close friendship of eight years could predict something like this happening, but the type of person Brock is could never deserve this or do anything he has been convicted of in a thousand of his lives.”

Turner is highly motivated and a hard worker, according to Pocisk. What’s more, she said she never felt pressured by him in any capacity and is a “better person” because of him.

Trump's Weekly Presidential Address to feature showgirls, Press Secretary Phil Robertson, & Chachi.

Breaking news, so, you know...no link.

Presumptive GOP Nominee Donald Trump Announces New Format For Weekly Presidential Address

Presumptive GOP Nominee Donald Trump announced on Thursday that, if elected in November, he will overhaul the current format of the Weekly Presidential address in favor of a "new, exciting, very very good" style loosely based on the classic "Tonight Show With Johnny Carson" TV set.

Each weekly address will feature Trump, seated behind a desk similar to the one Carson made famous, with Scott "Chachi" Baio at his side as an Ed McMahon-style sidekick. In order to punctuate points that he feels are particularly relevant, Trump will hit an "APPLAUSE" button, upon which Baio will reply "Sounds GREAT, boss!" Baio beat out New Jersey Governor Chris Christie for the role, who will continue to function as Trump's errand boy throughout his first term in office (if elected).

Also joining Trump in a role similar to that of Doc Severinsen will be beloved homophobe Phil Robertson of "Duck Dyansty," who Trump has announced will be his new Press Secretary (if elected). Robertson will also hold a trumpet, like Severinsen, but he won't be playing it. Robertson is on hand to assist Trump with communicating his stance on "hot button" issues. Trump will turn to Robertson and ask "What do you think, Phil?" Phil's response will be "They're gonna burn. Alla them. It's in the book. Look it up if you don't believe me. It's all right there. In the book"

Each address will conclude with a highly choreographed dance routine from the Trump Dancers, a group of Las Vegas showgirls selected personally by Trump. "These girls are fabulous, just fabulous," Trump enthused. "I'm looking forward to seeing how this ensemble cast grows and progresses during my first, second, third, and fourth terms in office."

Scott Baio could not be reached for comment.

Country Singer David Allan Coe Convicted of Tax Evasion (must now pay $980+K)

I had a friend in Nevada who's a professional musician, and he played in Coe's touring band for a while. He described him as mean, abusive, and a guy who couldn't hold his alcohol. The last paragraph below was news to me but comes as no surprise. See below the main story for details.

http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/david-allan-coe-convicted-of-tax-evasion-20160615

David Allan Coe, one of the more infamous characters of the Outlaw Movement, has been sentenced to three years probation for tax evasion. In addition, a federal court in Cincinnati has ordered the 76-year-old Ohio native to pay close to $1 million in back taxes to the IRS. In 2015, Coe pleaded guilty to impeding and obstructing the administration of tax laws.

According to federal prosecutors, Coe earned income from touring from 2008 through 2013, but didn't pay taxes or, in some cases, even file his income tax. In a 2015 story about Coe's tax woes, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported that the "You Never Even Called Me By My Name" singer would only accept payment for his concerts in cash, and never fifties — he thought the Grant-stamped bills were "bad luck and would not gamble with them."

Coe, who is set to perform Tuesday in Connecticut, is known for country and Southern rock songs like "Longhaired Redneck," "Willie, Waylon and Me" and the Hank Williams tribute "The Ride." He also penned Johnny Paycheck's signature hit "Take This Job and Shove It," and recorded and released a series of X-rated — and often racist — underground songs.

Coe must now pay $980,911.86 for the years in question.

Songwriter's Racist Songs From 1980's Haunt Him
By NEIL STRAUSS
Published: September 4, 2000

http://www.nytimes.com/2000/09/04/arts/songwriter-s-racist-songs-from-1980-s-haunt-him.html

Bootlegged by fans and college fraternity members for years, those songs have recently been stirring up new trouble on the Internet: they are being passed around as e-mail files accompanied by sexually explicit and racist animation and they are being posted as computer files on Web sites like www.whitesonly.net.

Mr. Coe, who has long distanced himself from the music and toned down his act for his last record deal with Sony/Lucky Dog, has decided to start making money from the old music anyway. He is selling the songs on one CD on his own Web site for $45 plus shipping ($25 for cassette), though he refuses to put his name on the disc or packaging.

All of this comes as Mr. Coe is being exposed to a new audience, thanks to the Detroit rap-metal star Kid Rock, who invited Mr. Coe to be an opening act on his current tour, which ended Friday. The pair also recently recorded several songs together in a Detroit studio. Some music fans are wondering how Kid Rock, who has collaborated with black rappers and has made a living through appropriating their music, can be touring with a songwriter responsible for blatantly antiblack material.

In one song on Mr. Coe's ''X-Rated Hits'' CD, he rails against white women who sleep with black men, singing that it makes him want to throw up; in another, the chorus has it that some blacks ''never die/They just smell that way.'' The lyrics are a far cry from the songs Mr. Coe is better known for writing: Johnny Paycheck's ''Take This Job and Shove It,'' Tanya Tucker's ''Would You Lay With Me (In a Field of Stone)'' and his own hits like ''The Ride'' and ''Willie, Waylon and Me.'' In fact many of Mr. Coe's ''X-Rated Hits'' even make Eminem's heavily attacked recent album seem tenderhearted.

Major GOP Super-PAC Donor Won't Bankroll Trump

Source: Mother Jones

In June 2012, hedge fund manager Paul Singer cut a $1 million check to the organizers of the Republican National Convention in Tampa. At the convention itself, he was a star. He hosted invitation-only briefings with Karl Rove and Condoleezza Rice and organized special events, including a dinner with Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and a breakfast at which he laid out his vision for "pro-growth" policies in a Mitt Romney administration.

This time around, it appears that Singer, who is alleged to be worth $2.2 billion, will not be on hand to lecture well-heeled GOP insiders on his vision for a Donald Trump administration. And, Bloomberg reports, he won't be cutting a check to fund someone else's good time at the party's convention in Cleveland next month.

That's a big deal, and not just for the organizers of the convention. So far this election, Singer has donated at least $10.4 million to conservative causes, making him the third-largest donor in the cycle, and the second-biggest conservative donor. In 2014, he donated $10.6 million, mainly to super-PACs, again making him the No. 3 donor of the election cycle. And he apparently wants nothing to do with Trump.

Singer donated more than $5 million to the effort to elect Marco Rubio, then switched to backing anti-Trump super-PACs, pouring $2.5 million into a super-PAC set up explicitly for the purpose of undermining Trump. Given those donations, his decision to avoid helping Trump might have been made long ago. But the timing of the news isn't great for Trump, who has, since the Orlando shooting, sought to portray himself as a friend of the LGBT community. To the degree there is an organized movement within the Republican Party to support gay marriage and equal rights, Singer is at its helm. He was the organizer and major funding source for American Unity PAC, a conservative pro-equality super-PAC that spent $4.7 million during the 2014 election cycle.

One of my Facebook friends just went on a rant about "President Trump" and "innocent Muslins"

Obviously, I'm not going to link to his post and reveal his identity, but this saddens me, because he's a decent and funny guy who also has an extreme "fringe" side to his personality. It doesn't come out often, but when it does...

...anyway, I thought it was worth sharing the inner workings of a Trump supporter. He's not alone in his thoughts, and that is beyond tragic.

Ok folks! They say this is a "war"! On terror (ridiculous)! So, let's go with that. We as a country are at war. So what happens in time of war? Remember when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor? What happened to the normal, innocent Japanese citizens living in America? They were all gathered up and put into camps right here on American soil. Very sad and appalling for these innocent folks back then yes! But, this is normal wartime protocol. So bashing President Trump for him verbally at podiums expressing the same type of wartime tactic with respect to Muslims is completely warranted and appropriate being we're at war. Again, very sad for the innocent Muslins who are not radical terrorists. Hey, I didn't say we were fighting a war, the government is with the media pushing it every hour of the day. President Trump is so on the money (no pun intended)!
