School shooting fairly nearby this morning.

Madison High School, I think it was, maybe about 5 miles away. Single shooter, three students shot, but supposedly none with life-threatening injuries, which means we got off lightly compared to most shootings these days.

Yay, gunz!

ETA: Later reports only 2 shot, one hit with shrapnel, apparently.

ETA 2: And, on the same day, in the afternoon, at the closer high school (1 mile away) a student arrested for having a gun in his backpack.

Clinton ad buy on in Ohio.

Haven't seen any Bernie ads yet, but down here in the Cincinnati-Dayton market, I saw my first Clinton ad last night, and repeated again this morning. Morgan Freeman voiceover, targeting 'people with student debt, those with the deck stacked against them, and those getting paid too little', stating that she's been 'breaking barriers her entire career, and as President she would do the same'.

Melissa Harris-Perry Walks Off Her MSNBC Show After Pre-Emptions

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/02/27/business/media/melissa-harris-perry-walks-off-her-msnbc-show-after-pre-emptions.html

Melissa Harris-Perry said she was refusing to go on the MSNBC show she hosts this Saturday, following several weeks of pre-emptions and what she described as a loss of editorial control.

In an email sent to people she works with this week, which was obtained by The New York Times, Ms. Harris-Perry said that her show had effectively been taken away from her and that she felt “worthless” in the eyes of NBC News executives.

“Here is the reality: Our show was taken — without comment or discussion or notice — in the midst of an election season,” she wrote. “After four years of building an audience, developing a brand and developing trust with our viewers, we were effectively and utterly silenced.”

HuffpoPollster updates national rolling average with 3 new polls.

http://elections.huffingtonpost.com/pollster/2016-national-democratic-primary

48.7% Clinton, 42.3% Sanders, closest they've been yet, despite one of the three polls giving Clinton a 15 point edge.

The three new ones.

Morning Consult NEW! 2/24 - 2/25 1,723 RV 50 35 - - - - - 10
Ipsos/Reuters NEW! 2/20 - 2/24 546 RV 49 44 - - - - - 7
IBD/TIPP NEW! 2/19 - 2/24 334 RV 45 43 - - - - - 6

Note that all three are 'registered voters', rather than 'likely voters'.

Why does Hillary Clinton think she should get to dictate who President Obama nominates for SC?

Does she think he should be 'carrying her bags'? That the first black President of the United States should have to nominate a 'progressive' candidate because she says so, rather than nominate whoever he wants to? Why is she 'turning her back' on him, 'attacking him'?

tag for the sarcasm impaired.

Just thought I'd put out a few of the kind of attacks Bernie would have gotten if he had 'drawn a line in the sand' on the President's possible Supreme Court nominee. When Bernie disagrees with the President, it's an 'attack' or 'turning his back on' 'the first black President'. When Clinton does it to shore up her 'progressive' cred? Seems to be a positive, somehow.

From Twitter: Trump obituary.

We could use another pinned thread.

Or add to one that's already pinned. We need that chart with the two 538 projection columns, to make it easy to compare new polling on various states to his 'Bernie path to victory', as well as the links to the Huffpo and RealClearPolitics rolling polling averages for handy reference.

Ralston Reports: 'Reid-Culinary' Bond won Nevada for Clinton

http://www.rgj.com/story/news/politics/2016/02/20/ralston-reports-harry-reid-culinary-union-bond-won-nevada-caucus-hillary-clinton/80685878/

Interesting story. After months and months of organizing, what might have tipped the scales, or at least made it much of a larger win than it would have been... was Harry Reid.

Saturday may well be the day that altered the course of the Democratic presidential race, when Hillary Clinton blunted Bernie Sanders’ campaign, when she was forced to work as hard as she ever has for a week (with a little help from a lot of friends) and slingshotted her with new momentum into South Carolina and then Super Tuesday. Nevada may indeed prove to be the day that saved Hillary Clinton’s campaign.

But the caucus, which Clinton won by about 5 percentage points, also cemented Prince Harry as a man Machiavelli would have bowed to, a man who with one eye who still sees the field better and is still more dangerous, effective and cunning as any pol the state (the country?) has ever seen. Clinton may not have won Nevada if Reid had not interceded last week when the man feigning neutrality saw what everyone in the Democratic elite saw: Sanders erasing a once mountainous lead and on the verge of perhaps winning Nevada and rendering inoperative the “Hillary is more electable” argument.

The story of the Nevada caucus is that a lame-duck senator and a self-neutered union conspired to revive the Clinton campaign in a remarkable bit of backroom maneuvering that helped Madame Secretary crush Sanders in Clark County, the key to winning almost any statewide election. Combined with a Clinton machine, erected last spring and looking invincible, that suddenly had to scrape the rust off its gears and turn out her voters, Caucus Day also was a remarkable story of an indomitable candidate, her nonpareil Nevada staff and a ragtag but committed Sanders operation that made them sweat.

Worth a read.

What's for Dinner? Sun, Feb. 21, 2016

I'm guessing NJCher got held up doing something important in RL, so I'm going to post this one. I can always drop it again if she pops up

Tonight, we're doing butterflied (boneless) chicken breasts baked in an apple-cranberry chutney, with a side of steamed cauliflower baked just long enough to melt shredded sharp white cheddar into and over it.

It's smelling good, but won't be done for another half hour or more.
