Didn't some US General say before the Iraq war...

that we would need 100,000 more troops than we were sending and they would need to stay there 10 years?

I just wonder if learning by reading from a book is different than from a tablet/computer

It has been decades since high school, so I can only remember some of the learning experience from that time. I have done post high school education every decade for a year or so for the last few decades. I prefer books for most learning that I have done, although for some things the computer was equal or superior.
-
For me, I find reading and classes that have texts online a little less satisfying in some ways.
-
I can't tell how much is there for one thing. That bothers me some.
-
With a hard copy book, the task is tangible, not subject to unlimited links... unless one chooses to view footnotes or go to related topics contained in the hard copy book. But with hard copy the task (enjoyed or not) is basically right in front of you.
-
With tablet /computer learning, there is no tangible, discrete visible amount. And it provides an instant search feature often. And instant unlimited connectivity in cases... which can be a distraction.
-
Am I making sense in differentiating these two methods of learning?
-
An example might be learning math and numbers the old fashioned way with pencil and paper versus using a calculator.
-
It just seems a different learning experience.
-
thank you for your time.

I wonder if people can read at times

Justice without reading
-
We all make errors of sort at times. But when an alert is made and the alert contains quotes that do not exist... why can't the jury see that? Just puzzles me.
-
Quotes are supposed to be accurate. Sometimes they are used out of context and used wrongly on a topic ... but they at least exist when used that way.
-
To quote something that does not exist, and then for someone to not even look to see if it exists ...equals no justice.

Goldman sachs CEO on CBS this morning....( just my take on it)

CEO says banks getting zero interest loans from federal reserve and not making US jobs...just how it is.
-
On companies making money from overseas.... a flat world is great because labor costs are cheaper
-
Companies have no choice but to do things like this or they will go broke... there is no second place
-
US government is stuck, so this will continue.
-
He would change things income disparity with a button if he could, but he cannot. Things will remain the same.

If the Democratic Party holds the Senate through 2016

It won't matter which Democrat we elect President in 2016. It won't change much. If a Republican wins the President in 2016, it would.
-
The Republicans would prefer Hillary rather than Warren.
-
But it looks like 6-10 more years of the same... not much. Which is better than the Republicans would do.

Bergdahl... a cover story

many are happy because it gives them something to talk about.. while nothing gets done.
-
NSA, internet ... not talked about.
-
pick any issue of import.. not covered.
-
this Bergdahl situation will fix itself one way or the other. Done is done. Either the military will do something or President Obama may pardon him ... later. No story here yet. If those Taliban do something, it will be a story...then. Done is done.
-
just a story that gets coverage, and just my opinion.

As the USA pulls back from international adventurism, does this bode well for jobs ?

Supposedly capital likes consistency. As other parts of the world go through their changes, will America become more attractive as a place for investment?
-
The military expenditures have been quite steady over the years, and those companies prospered. It will take a while for that to lessen. But jobs will be lost.
-
But the general American population may do better because the country as a whole is more stable than many places and capital may choose to invest here.
-
Just wondering.
