'A lot of silence from Republicans' about Trump's stealing of classified documents: reporter

By Matthew Chapman

On Friday's edition of CNN's "The Lead," Atlanta Journal-Constitution Washington correspondent Tia Mitchell highlighted the double standard surrounding Republicans who attacked Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's use of a personal email server to handle sensitive work, but who are are now staying silent amid reports that former President Donald Trump mishandled classified documents on his way out of the White House.

"I know from the email scandal in 2016, 2017, that a lot of Republican officials are very concerned about the top secret clearance and information not going into the wrong places," said anchor Jake Tapper. "So I assume, correct me if I am wrong, many officials came out and decried what happened here?"

"You will be disappointed, that is not the case," said Mitchell. "Republicans have been silent when they don't want to contradict their previous statements, they'll conveniently not respond. So we are see a lot of silence from Republican members. We know it's not going to be the same. We know the way they came, the way they came to Hillary Clinton was partisan and it wasn't equal to the way they have responded to many of the controversies from former President Trump. And so this is just another one on the list where Republicans are not holding him accountable in the same way they've held Democrats for similar behavior or, quite frankly, even less serious behavior."

To all of you enabling republicans you were given the opportunity twice to remove that traitor and you did what....fucking nothing...... but your fucking party spent over $7 million.....on Benghazi.....and now nothing coming out of your pie holes.....and just for good measure I think the public has a right to know if the classified was being sold to the highest bidder....

GOP Senate candidate skipped 61% of votes in a single year as state lawmaker

By Josh Israel -February 11, 2022 11:22 AM

Yet Kevin Smith is calling New Hampshire Democratic Sen. Maggie Hassan an 'absent senator.'

A New Hampshire Republican is accusing the Democratic incumbent he hopes to challenge in November of being an absentee U.S. senator. To judge by their respective attendance records in the U.S. Senate and the New Hampshire House of Representatives, though, Sen. Maggie Hassan's is stellar, while Kevin Smith's own as a state legislator apparently was not.

Smith, who served one term in the New Hampshire House in the 1990s, announced in January that he will resign from his job as Londonderry town manager and seek his party's nomination for Hassan's Senate seat. His campaign site says that he "is seen by national and local media as being one of the most influential conservatives in the Granite State."

On Jan. 25, Smith tweeted from his campaign account, "@Maggie_Hassan has been an absent Senator. We deserve a Senator who cares more about what's on the minds of hard working Granite Staters than kowtowing to the party bosses in Washington. #MaggieHasnt - I will. #NHSen #NHpolitics."

-snip-
Since being elected to the Senate in 2016, Hassan's attendance record has been close to perfect. According to ProPublica's missed votes database, Hassan missed just 0.7% of the Senate's votes in 2021-2022, 0.1% of votes in 2019-2020, and 0.5% of votes in 2017-2018. This put her consistently in the top third of senators with the best attendance.

Someone should ask him (Smith) if the last election should have been thrown out...and if voters vote should count if they are democrat......

The supreme court is helping consolidate white political power in America

April England-Albright, Cliff Albright and LaTosha Brown
Opinion
US supreme court

On Tuesday, the US supreme court in its Merrill v Milligan decision, upheld Alabama’s racially gerrymandered congressional map, which see Black people represented in only 14% of congressional districts, despite making up about 27% of Alabama’s population. This ruling is reminiscent of the holding in the supreme court’s 1857 Dred Scott decision that Black people “had no rights which the white man was bound to respect”. Even though the two cases addressed two different situations, the overall disregard of the rights of Black people in America by the highest court in the country is the same.

And just as the Dred Scott decision laid the groundwork for similar rulings that led to the continuation of white political power at the expense of Black political power, so too does the Miller case lay the groundwork for ending voting rights and political power for Black people in this country and a path towards white political power at all levels of government.

Some reading this will gasp and accuse us of misusing an explosive pre-reconstruction case to make a racially charged argument. But the reality is that the conservative gang of justices, under the leadership of Chief Justice John Roberts, had already joined its pre-1954 brethren who had indoctrinated Jim Crow policies and the disenfranchisement of Black voters.

The Soup Nazi on Marjorie Taylor Greene's gazpacho police: 'I knew I was in trouble'

Larry Thomas, the actor behind the Seinfeld character, gives his take on the viral gaffe: ‘You can’t write this shit’

The extremist congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, who previously alerted the US to the dangers of space lasers, issued a new warning to the American people on Thursday: the speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, has unleashed “gazpacho police” to spy on Greene’s colleagues in Congress.

It is, of course, possible that a clandestine network bent on the regulation of cold soup operates deep under the Capitol cafeteria. But Greene was presumably confusing “gazpacho” with the Gestapo, the Nazi secret police.

https://twitter.com/i/status/1491525010997096449

The comments prompted widespread social media mockery, but it’s not the first time soup and fascism have been linked in American popular culture. A 1995 episode of Seinfeld featured the cast visiting a celebrated Manhattan soup spot whose owner was a real stickler for the rules, earning him the nickname the Soup Nazi.

Could the Soup Nazi have secretly been a member of the gazpacho police? We asked Larry Thomas, who played the character, for his take on the moment as soups and Nazis march back into the headlines.

Thomas, no fan of Greene or the ex-president she claims won re-election, says he was floored by the comments. “How in the world can a grown person, who grew up in the 20th century, not know what the word Gestapo is?” he asks. “They say ‘You can’t write this shit.’ It’s beyond you can’t write this shit.”

In the world of another day of criminal BS...

Mark Meadows claims Trump administration was ‘very diligent’ in preserving White House documents

Former Trump White House chief of staff Mark Meadows is claiming the administration he led "was very diligent in making sure we preserved" White House documents, a claim that stretches credulity.

Meadows, who was referred to the Dept. of Justice two months ago for criminal contempt of Congress, made the stunning claim on Newsmax (video below). He did so despite multiple reports of White House documents being flushed down the toilet, a president habitually tearing up documents, earlier reports of documents hidden on secret servers, and more than 15 cartons of documents – unknown quantities still missing – that belong to the federal government, including top-secret classified documents being removed from the White House and stored at Mar-a-Lago after Donald Trump's term in office.

On Wednesday the National Archives asked the Dept. of Justice to investigate Trump’s handling of White House materials.

Of course he would be claiming this, the question should be asked is why isn't the media asking why haven't these people been arrested yet...the evidence says they should be behind bars until there court dates.......JFC......probable cause can get you thrown in jail........the frickn boxes where at his rat infested place.....someone, anyone needs to file charges....

Another Arizona Republican posts video threatening Democrats

By Josh Israel -February 10, 2022 4:55 PM

GOP Senate candidate Jim Lamon's new ad shows him shooting at an actor playing Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ). Kelly's wife, former Rep. Gabby Giffords (D-AZ), was shot and nearly killed in 2011.

In a new campaign ad, Arizona Republican Senate candidate Jim Lamon — appearing as an Old West-style sheriff — shoots at an actor playing his political opponent, incumbent Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ).

The ad comes 11 years after Kelly's wife, former Rep. Gabby Giffords (D-AZ), was shot in the head and almost killed during a mass shooting in Tucson, Arizona.

Lamon is a former business executive seeking the Republican Senate nomination in Arizona. In the ad, which is slated to air during the Super Bowl, Lamon appears to face off in a showdown against actors playing Kelly, President Joe Biden, and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Ron Johnson received donations from Wisconsin company that shipped 1,000 jobs out of state

By Josh Israel -February 9, 2022 5:30 PM0 Comments505

The GOP senator recently refused to ask Oshkosh Defense to locate new jobs in its own state.

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) is refusing to urge a Wisconsin company to reconsider its decision to put 1,000 manufacturing jobs in South Carolina. The business, Oshkosh Defense, is one of Johnson's top career campaign funders.

In February 2021, the United States Postal Service awarded a 10-year, $482 million contract to the Oshkosh, Wisconsin-based company to build its next generation of delivery vehicles.

In June, the company announced it planned to build that fleet at a new dedicated facility in Spartanburg, South Carolina, and to hire "over 1,000 local team members" there. John Bryant, the company's president, called it "the perfect place" to produce the vehicles because "the people of Spartanburg take pride in their work and their community."

Hey, John Roberts what would you call a senator that is taking money and said company wants to ship said jobs to a right to work for less state and then said company makes millions......and then the senator goes around and brags about it, while said campaign donations just pad the coffer of a senator....I call it quid pro quo....that is basically what your Citizens United ruling is all about....with what is happening here.....I think that my tax dollars should go to the workers in Wisconsin to build those vehicles....

I am going to call my senator up to try and stop this BS.....Boeing did the same stuff....

McConnell demands that governors stop Biden from making America greener

By Oliver Willis -February 10, 2022 9:30 AM

The White House's infrastructure plan gave states guidance to invest in eco-friendly projects.

On Wednesday, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) released a letter directing state and local governments to ignore the Biden administration's suggested guidelines to focus on projects that are good for the environment.

The Republican senators complained that a December memo from Stephanie Pollack, deputy administrator of the Federal Highway Administration, amounted to a "wish list of policies." The letter encouraged state and local governments to invest in projects like bike and pedestrian paths, public transportation, and charging stations for electric vehicles.

In November, President Joe Biden signed the $1.2 trillion Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act into law. The following month, the White House released a set of guidelines directing states and municipalities to use their federal infrastructure funds on projects that increase sustainability and equity. Projects that advance environmental justice are expected to use roughly one-fifth of the law's funds, or $240 billion.

Dogs can be trained to sniff out COVID-19 - a team of forensic researchers explain the science

By The Conversation
Published February 10, 2022

?id=24814174&width=800&height=430

With up to 300 million scent receptors, dogs are among the best smell detectors in the animal world. The human nose, by comparison, contains only around 6 million scent receptors. Dog brains also devote 40% more brain space than humans to analyzing odors.

That’s why people train dogs to search for diverse targets via smell, from illegal drugs and agricultural pests to missing persons, endangered wildlife species and more. Dogs accomplish this by successfully recognizing the odors of substances called volatile organic compounds that are specifically associated with these targets. Not only can trained dogs detect these volatile organic compounds, but oftentimes they can do it with greater sensitivity than analytical instruments.

Volatile organic compounds can be produced by living organisms as well as by natural or synthetic materials. In humans, they are produced by the body’s metabolic activity, then enter the bloodstream and are finally released into the air through blood, urine, feces, skin or breath.
