Native Americans defeat GOP's racist voter ID law in North Dakota

By Dan Desai Martin -February 13, 2020 3:27 PM

North Dakota will accept tribal IDs as identification at the voting booth moving forward.

North Dakota was forced this week to allow Native American tribal IDs as acceptable identification at the voting booth, the Campaign Legal Center announced on Thursday.

The decision is the culmination of a four-year legal battle that began in January 2016, in response to the state's stringent voter ID law.

"It has always been our goal to ensure that every native person in North Dakota has an equal opportunity to vote, and we have achieved that today," Matthew Campbell, attorney for the Native American Rights Fund, said in a press release. "We thank the Spirit Lake Nation, Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, and the individual native voters that stood up for the right to vote."

The Native American Rights Fund, along with the Campaign Legal Center, were plaintiffs in lawsuits targeting the ID law.

Under the GOP-backed law, North Dakota residents were forced to present identification with a street address in order to vote. However, many Native Americans in the state live on reservations that do not even have residential addresses, thereby disenfranchising them from the ability to vote.

"This restrictive voter ID law put North Dakota beyond the norms of voter ID laws and violates the constitutional rights of the state's citizens," the Native American Rights Fund wrote on its website. "Just like North Dakota's previous law, which was found unconstitutional by a federal court, this law makes it harder for some citizens—specifically Native American citizens—to exercise their right to vote."

On Thursday, the North Dakota Secretary of State agreed to enter a legally binding consent decree allowing tribal IDs as an

acceptable for of voter ID. Further, according to the Campaign Legal Center, the state will work to distribute free non-driver IDs on every reservation in the state within 30 days of an election.

Trump is eroding the 'fundamental bedrock' of a 'rule of law society': Ex-FBI Deputy McCabe

Published 4 mins ago on February 12, 2020
By Matthew Chapman

On Wednesday’s edition of CNN’s “The Situation Room,” former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe broke down for anchor Wolf Blitzer how unprecedented President Donald Trump’s interference in the Justice Department is.

“It’s hard to even explain what a departure this is from every reasonable standard of how to conduct prosecutions and investigations in a rule of law society in which all people are treated the same,” said McCabe. “One the fundamental bedrocks of that is the president does not get involved in criminal prosecutions. Certainly doesn’t weigh in with his preferences on sentences, wouldn’t typically attack witnesses, wouldn’t assail the government for recruiting informants, but these are all things that this president has done repeatedly.”

“[In your] 21 years in the FBI, have you ever seen a president attack a federal judge, for example, or go after prosecutors, federal prosecutors, along these lines?” asked anchor Wolf Blitzer.

“Not only have I never seen it, the one time that I can remember — President Obama, you may recall, made an offhanded, impertinent remark during our investigation of the Hillary Clinton email situation, in which he opined that we were unlikely to find much. And that simple statement rocked us to the core. I can tell you that we were incredibly concerned about asking ourselves what did that mean, was the president trying to tell us what his intent was for the investigation?”

Well Mr McCabe and then there is Wolf..................take a step back and think "who was in charge of Congress when this "first started out".....................I got a answer for you, the country had two years of a senate and house that was controlled by fascist's and they did fucking nothing to hold this "guy accountable .............and the country and the Constitution just got fucked over by republicans in the senate less than 10 days ago................... .......and then when the democrats took back the house and exposed the republican BS, everyone every where are now are throwing up there hands, trying to seek some answer........................

Hey Blitzer I got an answer why don't you get some people around in a forum on your show that are upset with this BS and ask them what they think on how the republicans are taking down this republic.........................

Lisa Murkowski wilts after reporters confront her with evidence Trump has

gotten worse since acquittal

Published 6 hours ago on February 12, 2020
By Brad Reed

Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), who last week voted to acquit President Donald Trump on abuse of power and obstruction of Congress charges, admitted to reporters on Wednesday that she’d seen no indications that the president had been chastened by his impeachment.

Per New York Times reporter Nicholas Fandos, Murkowski was asked if she’d seen any evidence that Trump had learned anything since being impeached over a scheme to shake down the Ukrainian government to get it to announce investigations into his political rivals.

“There haven’t been very strong indicators this week that he has,” Murkowski admitted.

According to CNN’s Manu Raju, Murkowski also dodged when asked if she thought it was appropriate for Trump to push the Department of Justice to reduce the sentencing recommendation for longtime ally Roger Stone, who was convicted last year on charges of perjury, witness tampering, and obstruction of justice.

“I don’t think the president should be determining what the sentences are,” she said, before adding, “But he’s not.”

“There haven’t been very strong indicators this week that he has,” Murkowski admitted.

Schumer Calls On Graham To Hold Emergency Hearing On Roger Stone Sentencing Mess

By Matt Shuham
February 12, 2020 12:25 p.m.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) called on Trump ally and Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham (R-SC) to investigate why the Justice Department has watered down its proposed prison sentence for Trump confidant Roger Stone.

Schumer’s call came after four career federal prosecutors withdrew from the case against Stone (and one resigned from the DOJ entirely) after department higher-ups reportedly insisted that the government suggest a lighter prison sentence.

Schumer on Tuesday requested that the Justice Department inspector general investigate what led to the DOJ’s change in its Stone sentencing recommendation, and on the Senate floor Wednesday he asked Graham to hold an emergency hearing for the same purpose.

“That’s the job of the Judiciary Committee, no matter who is president, whether the president is from your party or not,” Schumer said. “Something egregious like this demands that the inspector general investigate and demands that the Chairman of the Judiciary Committee hold a hearing, now.”

Me, thinks its time to bring the protests to Graham's office.................he already made his bed so to speak................he doesn't give a rats ass about the Constitution or the rules of law....................his vote proved that..............and Schumer should have reminded the public about that during his news conference....................

Ex-OSU Wrestling Captain Says Jordan Begged Him To Deny Claims He Knew Of Sexual Abuse

By Cristina Cabrera
February 12, 2020 2:33 p.m.

Adam DiSabato, a former captain of Ohio State University’s wrestling team, testified on Wednesday that Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) had begged him in 2018 to repudiate allegations that the congressman was aware of the former wrestling team doctor’s sexual abuse of the student wrestlers.

During a hearing on a bill in Ohio’s general assembly that would allow Dr. Richard Strauss’ victims to sue OSU, DiSabato recalled that Jordan, who served as the team’s assistant coach from 1987 to 1995, kept calling him in July 2018 after DiSabato’s brother, Michael, and several other former wrestlers publicly accused Jordan of ignoring Strauss’ abuse.

“Jim Jordan called me crying, groveling … begging me to go against my brother. … That’s the kind of cover-up that’s going on there,” DiSabato told Ohio lawmakers, according to Cleveland.com.

Ian Fury, Jordan’s communications director, told TPM in an emailed statement that the Republican lawmaker “never saw or heard of any abuse, and if he had he would have dealt with it.”

Barr Agrees To Testify Before House Judiciary Committee On 3/31, Dems Say

Source: Talking Points Memo

By Matt Shuham
February 12, 2020 3:49 p.m.

Attorney General Bill Barr will testify before the House Judiciary Committee on March 31, the committee announced Wednesday.

The announcement of Barr’s impending testimony came as the Attorney General faces serious criticism regarding the Justice Department’s watered down sentencing recommendations for Trump confidante Roger Stone

A letter to Barr signed by Democrats on the Committee notified him that he would be asked to answer questions about “the misuse of our criminal justice system for political purposes.” The letter stated it was confirming Barr’s “agreement to testify.”

Separately, it noted Barr’s “pattern of conduct in legal matters relating to the President that raises significant concerns for this Committee.”

In addition to concerns about Stone’s sentencing, committee Democrats’ letter informed Barr that they intended to ask him about the abrupt removal of U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jessie Liu from her post on Jan. 30.

And has for him agreeing , this isn't about agreeing, it's the law......................we the taxpayers give his agency money............now that he is trying to go down and take this democratic republic and turn it a third world dictatorship ..........
