Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov promised that Russia will use all forces and means against Ukraine if the latter decides to go to war for Crimea. Lavrov made this statement on Wednesday after a meeting with his Italian counterpart, Federica Mogherini.
“I would not advise anyone to do that (attack Crimea – Ed.). We have a doctrine of national security; it very clearly prescribes actions that our country must take in such cases.” said Lavrov.
In 2009, the National Security Concept was revised in Putin’s Russia.
According to this concept, Russia has the right to “use all forces and means at its disposal, including nuclear weapons, to repel any armed aggression.”
In March 2014, Russia illegally occupied Ukrainian Crimea, and “included” it in the Russian Federation.
All international organizations, including the UN General Assembly, PACE, OSCE, the U.S., the EU and Ukraine itself have deemed the occupation illegal and recognize Crimea as Ukrainian territory.

Famous “actress on tour” Tsypko played a part of a victim of the Odesa tragedy
June 21 TV channel Russia One on the air of “Vesti” program showed a news item concerning investigation of the incidents in Odesa on May 2 when around 40 people had perished.
Once again already famous “actress on tour” Mariya Tsypko appeared in this news item. She had showed up previously in 4 different Ukrainian cities as a local resident, a victim or an eyewitness of Ukrainian army “atrocities”.
In this hot news item of “Vesti” a voiceover says: “Eyewitnesses and relatives of perished people are threatened. This video was filmed near the Ukrainian Embassy in Moscow, where activists of the Kulikovo Field, forced to leave Odesa, gathered. They can’t return to their homeland as this is dangerous now”.
After that “an activist of the Kulikovo Field” Tsypko told the channel about persecutions against pro-Russian activists, organized by the Head of Odesa local police.
In turn her colleague announced with tears in her eyes: “A great number of our activists perished. No wonder, we had sticks and they had guns”.

Vladislav Seleznev, the official spokesman for the Ukrainian government's Anti-Terrorism Operation (ATO), has written on his Facebook page that separatist fighters in Severodonetsk have shelled Ukrainian positions and residential areas.
Ukrainska Pravda reports that Seleznev wrote (translated by The Interpreter):
"Having fired several rounds at the positions of the Ukrainian troops, the militants deployed their mortars in the opposite direction and opened fire on residential areas of the city," wrote Seleznev.
According to operational data, there are no civilian casualties, but "a few buildings in the city were damaged."
According to the spokesman for the ATO, the terrorists have used this tactic to turn the local population against Ukrainian forces.
We would stress here that Seleznev's report of the separatists firing on civilian areas in order to tarnish the image of the ATO is not, as yet, verified by any material evidence.

Russia's swashbuckling military intelligence unit is full of assassins, arms dealers, and bandits. And what they pulled off in Ukraine was just the beginning.
The near-bloodless seizure of Crimea in March was based on plans drawn up by the General Staff's Main Operations Directorate that relied heavily on GRU intelligence. The GRU had comprehensively surveyed the region, was watching Ukrainian forces based there, and was listening to their communications. The GRU didn't only provide cover for the "little green men" who moved so quickly to seize strategic points on the peninsula before revealing themselves to be Russian troops. Many of those operatives were current or former GRU Spetsnaz.
There is an increasing body of evidence that the so-called defense minister of the separatist Donetsk People's Republic, Igor Strelkov, whose real name is Igor Girkin, is a serving or reserve GRU officer, who likely takes at the very least guidance, if not orders, from the agency's headquarters. As a result, the European Union has identified him as GRU "staff" and has placed him on its sanctions list. Although the bulk of the insurgents in eastern Ukraine appear to be Ukrainians or Russian "war tourists" -- encouraged, armed, and facilitated by Moscow -- there also appear to be GRU operators on the ground helping to bring guns and people across the border.
The Vostok Battalion makes Moscow's strategy clear: The Kremlin has no desire for outright military conflict in its neighbors. Instead, the kind of "non-linear war" being waged in Ukraine, which blends outright force, misinformation, political and economic pressure, and covert operations, will likely be its means of choice in the future. These are the kinds of operations in which the GRU excels.
After all, while Moscow is not going to abandon its claims to being a global power, in the immediate future Russia's foreign-policy focus will clearly be building and maintaining its hegemony in Eurasia. These are also the areas where the GRU is strongest. For example, in Kazakhstan, whose Russian-heavy northern regions are a potential future target for similar political pressure through local minorities, the GRU is the lead intelligence provider, as its civilian counterpart, the SVR, is technically barred from operating in Kazakhstan or any of the countries in the Commonwealth of Independent States by the 1992 Alma-Ata Declaration.

A prominent Russian ultra-nationalist philosopher has told BBC News that war between Russia and Ukraine "is inevitable" and has called on President Vladimir Putin to intervene militarily in eastern Ukraine "to save Russia's moral authority".
Alexander Dugin is the founder of Russia's Eurasian movement. His views are believed to be popular among the hawkish Russian elite. Until recently, he was also a professor at Moscow State University, but he says his current status with the university is unclear. His views have not changed, he says, but attitudes towards his views among those in power may be shifting.
He has been labelled the brains behind President Putin's wildly popular annexation of Crimea.
The next step, he proclaims, is military intervention in eastern Ukraine, which he regularly calls Novorossiya (New Russia). It is a name that has also been used by President Putin.

(Reuters) - Russia should boost its arms exports to help the industry upgrade and add more high-end jobs to the labor market, President Vladimir Putin was quoted as saying on Monday.
Russia is the focus of military tensions with the West over its annexation of Crimea from Ukraine. It has also been a long-standing arms supplier to Syria and ally of President Bashar al-Assad, who opposition forces are seeking to oust.
"It is important to... strengthen Russia's presence on global arms markets," RIA news agency quoted Putin as telling a meeting on military cooperation with foreign countries.
"Beyond doubt, this should help national defense industries to plan for an expansion and update of production, (and) create new quality jobs."...

While Ukraine was preparing to sign the Association Agreement with the EU, Russia was trying to secure the support of Belarus and Kazakhstan in introducing protective measures against Ukrainian goods.
Moscow failed to convince its Eurasian partners that Kyiv’s Association Agreement would pose a threat to their economies and had to resort to taking unilateral action for raising customs duties on goods from Ukraine.
This case represents may well represent a model of relations that may come to dominate decision-making in the Eurasian Economic Union. Fairly frequently, the three nations have viewed their respective interests as being too divergent to reach a comfortable compromise and instead are resorting to taking unilateral action.
