Statement from Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter

Dear xxx,

Rosalynn and I are pained by the tragic racial injustices and consequent backlash across our nation in recent weeks. Our hearts are with the victims’ families and all who feel hopeless in the face of pervasive racial discrimination and outright cruelty. We all must shine a spotlight on the immorality of racial discrimination. But violence, whether spontaneous or consciously incited, is not a solution.

As a white male of the South, I know all too well the impact of segregation and injustice to African Americans. As a politician, I felt a responsibility to bring equity to my state and our country. In my 1971 inaugural address as Georgia’s governor, I said: “The time for racial discrimination is over.” With great sorrow and disappointment, I repeat those words today, nearly five decades later. Dehumanizing people debases us all; humanity is beautifully and almost infinitely diverse. The bonds of our common humanity must overcome the divisiveness of our fears and prejudices.

Since leaving the White House in 1981, Rosalynn and I have strived to advance human rights in countries around the world. In this quest, we have seen that silence can be as deadly as violence. People of power, privilege, and moral conscience must stand up and say “no more” to a racially discriminatory police and justice system, immoral economic disparities between whites and blacks, and government actions that undermine our unified democracy. We are responsible for creating a world of peace and equality for ourselves and future generations.

We need a government as good as its people, and we are better than this.

Sincerely,

Jimmy Carter

Black protesters form human shield around white officer separated from his unit

?

A group of protesters formed a human chain around a lone police officer after he got separated from his unit. Pictures from the protest show several black men linking their arms to shield the white officer from a hostile crowd in Louisville, Kentucky. The men stepped in after the officer was allegedly threatened by other protesters, and waited for his back-up to arrive.

According to local reports, the men had organised the protest for Breonna Taylor, a 26-year-old black woman who, according to a lawsuit, was shot dead by police officers who burst into her Louisville home and ‘blindly’ opened fire as she slept.

White Extremists Terrorize and Loot: 13 Videos of Destruction Black People Will Be Blamed For

Demonstrations have been infiltrated by white extremists hellbent on destroying property, vandalizing businesses, torching police cars and leaving the blame with the Black community.

As peaceful protests continue in response to the police killing of George Floydand Brenona Taylor, non-violent demonstrations have been infiltrated by white extremists hellbent on destroying property, vandalizing businesses, torching police cars and leaving the blame with the Black community.

During a press conference on Saturday morning (May 30), Minnesota Governor Tim Waltz, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter, and Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison took the stage together to share new information about the protests, and specifically the looting and violence that accompanied them.

"The people that are doing this are not Minneapolis residents," Mayor Frey said. "They are coming in largely from outside of the city, from outside of the region to prey on everything that we have built over the last several decades."

Ellison cited a now-viral video of a white man in a gas mask holding an umbrella who was caught by protesters breaking windows of a local AutoZone. Some believe the man to be an undercover cop, though that detail has not yet been verified.

Additionally, MSNBC’s Joy Reid tweeted that white nationalist groups are posting messages promoting that they use the protests to “get our loot on” and cause mayhem. Mayor Carter says the state’s top officials discovered that the white nationalist mayhem starters are throwing incendiary devices and then running behind actual protesters to “use them as a human shield.”

Vice reports that numerous militia, anti-government and white supremacist groups have shown up to protests across America. The latter group is allegedly hoping to use the tensions between them, law enforcement and police violence protesters as the spark of a race war.

Here are 13 viral videos showing who is really doing the vandalizing and looting around the country.

I can't get the video's to copy--my computer is once again asserting its independence. Damn Twitter! If anyone else can assist, please do.
