Tech billionaire Peter Thiel and the family of hedge fund manager Robert Mercer have donated millions of dollars to Protect Ohio Values, a super PAC formed in February to support Hillbilly Elegy author and money manager J.D. Vance in a possible run for U.S. Senate, according to a spokesperson cited by Forbes. Bryan Lanza, an adviser to the PAC, told the outlet that Thiel, who was a vocal Trump fan until the former president's bungling of the government’s coronavirus response, made a $10 million donation to the group. The Mercers, who have links to former Trump adviser Steve Bannon, donated a “significant” amount, said Lanza, who declined to offer a specific dollar figure. Vance, who has not yet officially announced that he is running, would be vying for the seat being vacated by retiring GOP Sen. Rob Portman.

Elizabeth Warren, AOC Lay Down Green Transit Plan for Biden

Jarrell Dillard and Leslie Kaufman | Bloomberg News
March 18, 2021

Progressives in the House and Senate plan to set down a marker March 18 for President Joe Biden’s infrastructure plans, introducing a $500 billion proposal to shift U.S. transportation away from fossil fuels.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), two proponents of the Green New Deal, are behind the bill, joined by Sen. Edward Markey (D-Mass.) and Rep. Andy Levin (D-Mich.). Their plan aims to accelerate the process of making the U.S. carbon neutral by 2050 — a goal Biden campaigned on — by putting the money in the hands of state, local and tribal governments or transit authorities to make sweeping investments in public transit systems.

“The climate crisis is an existential threat to our planet,” Warren said. “But it’s also a once-in-a-generation opportunity to rebuild our crumbling infrastructure, create a million good new jobs, and unleash the best of American innovation.”

The bill stands little chance of making it through Congress on its own, but the group plans to push the Biden administration to include the measure in its yet-to-be-unveiled next package tackling infrastructure, climate goals and economic growth. Even that faces multiple obstacles to getting through Congress, however. While Republicans have shown interest in upgrading transportation systems, they’re already raising concerns about adding to the nation’s debt.

U.S. reaches COVID-19 vaccine milestone of 100 million shots

Source: CBS News

The U.S. has now administered over 100 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine, according to figures posted Friday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

That equates to more than 35 million Americans fully vaccinated — 10.5% of the total U.S. population. Nearly 66 million, or almost 20% of the total population, have gotten at least one dose. Nearly one-third of Americans age 65 and older are fully vaccinated.

Since the first shot in the nationwide rollout was given on December 14, there have been more doses administered in the U.S. than any other country in the world, according to figures collected by Johns Hopkins University, although several smaller nations have vaccinated a higher proportion of their populations.

The U.S. is likely to hit another vaccine milestone late next week: President Biden set a goal of 100 million vaccinations in his first 100 days in office, which we're on track to reach well ahead of schedule.

The tide has turned at Amazon in Alabama completely in the union’s favor.

Biden’s support was a game changer - I’ve never seen anything like it

I was there in Nissan in Canton, Miss in 2017 when a majority Black workforce voted down uaw as workers feel victim to divide & conquer tactics.

Workers at Amazon, Biden & BLM learned lessons of that defeat & pushing forward.
