Hackers compromise FBI email system, send thousands of messages

Source: Reuters

Nov 13 (Reuters) - Hackers compromised a Federal Bureau of Investigation email system on Saturday and sent tens of thousands of messages warning of a possible cyberattack, according to the agency and security specialists.

Fake emails appeared to come from a legitimate FBI email address ending in @ic.fbi.gov, the FBI said in a statement.

Although the hardware impacted by the incident "was taken offline quickly upon discovery of the issue," the FBI said, "This is an ongoing situation."

The hackers sent tens of thousands of emails warning of a possible cyberattack, threat-tracking organization Spamhaus Project said on its Twitter account.

To date, Alabama has made plans to spend $440 million dollars of our American Rescue Plan funds. Of the $440 million, $400 million of it will be spent on building prisons while the other $40 million will be spent on hospitals.

Pelosi says Supreme Court 'immorally ripped away' relief from Americans in its 'arbitrary and cruel' decision to end eviction moratorium

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Friday rebuked the Supreme Court for ending a nationwide eviction ban, which puts millions of vulnerable renters at risk of eviction as new COVID-19 infections sweep the United States.

"Eviction is a horror that no family should ever have to experience - with cribs and personal belongings on the street, children in fear and distress and parents struggling to find basic shelter," Pelosi said in a statement. "Putting people out of their homes and forcing them to crowd in with others is also a public health risk as the delta variant accelerates."

The Supreme Court on Thursday evening struck down the Biden administration's 60-day extension of the eviction moratorium, which was announced on August 3.

In a 6-3 decision, the court ruled that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which issued the moratorium, had no legal authority to do so. The conservative majority argued that it's up to Congress to "specifically authorize" a "federally imposed eviction moratorium." The three liberal justices dissented, arguing that Congress has allocated billions in federal aid to help landlords cover rent, and that an eviction ban isn't as extreme as government-imposed coronavirus lockdown restrictions.

Speaker Pelosi is looking for ways to speed aid to renters. I'm not about to bet against her finding a way or making one.

Democratic leaders slate key vote on $3.5 trillion plan amid negotiations with moderates

(CNN) House Democrats are negotiating Tuesday morning on a plan to pass a budget framework that will unlock their ability to move forward on a sweeping $3.5 trillion economic package amid a standoff that has thrown a key agenda item for President Joe Biden into jeopardy.

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer announced the chamber will vote around 2:15 p.m. ET, Tuesday, on the rule that will advance both the Democratic-backed budget deal and the separate $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure measure, signaling the impasse with moderates seems to be winding down.

The deadlock forced House leadership into negotiations late into the evening on Monday attempting to reach a deal with moderates that would allow them to move ahead with a vote to pass the resolution, but shortly after midnight members were notified that no further votes were expected in the House for the night.

At issue: 10 moderates have demanded to first vote on a separate $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill, complicating an effort by Democratic leadership to quickly approve the budget resolution. Given House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's narrow three-vote majority in the chamber, the speaker has little room for defections.
