Violence is unacceptable. Period.

If someone insults someone you care about in public you can boo, get upset and have a talk with the person afterwards in private.

What you can't do is go over and hit the person.

Ordinary people who do that get expelled, fired, ejected, arrested, etc...

Using violence to resolve conflict has become way too common in our gun obsessed country.

Lastly a lot of survivors of physical and verbal abuse like myself were triggered by everything Will Smith did last night: the violent outburst, the yelling profanity and blame the victim excuses afterwards. A lot of us had flashbacks to abusers who've done the same thing and also not been held accountable. Violence is never justified in domestic disputes. Period.

What the latest Trump news proves

The news about the SDNY investigation being blocked and Trump telling Mo Brooks to remove Biden from office 7 months after the election prove 2 things:

1. Trump will always get away with his criminal behavior and will never be held accountable.

2. If he gets back in the White House in 2024 he's never leaving.

All because the people in a position to prosecute Trump and bar him from holding public office again are too scared of him and how his cult of supporters and financial backers will react.

It's tragic the media still covers all this as a normal political story. Trump is a national security threat spreading domestic terrorism and should be treated as such.

Why it's so hard not to hate Republicans

I hate Republicans because I know I can't watch Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson's confirmation hearings this week without hitting the mute button every time a Republican Senator speaks.

I know their obnoxious and condescending line of questioning will immediately make me ashamed to be an American. And my blood pressure will rise everytime I see the arrogant smirk on the faces of Cruz, Hawley, Blackburn, etc...

The GOP, especially in Washington DC, make following current events unbearable and even toxic They've destroyed political discourse in this country. And are proud they've made most Americans distrust the government and democracy. They make it really hard not to hate them.

How do you respond to conspiracy theorists?

Wondering how other Democrats deal with people who start rambling on about some right wing conspiracy theory that you know isn't true.

Living in the rural part of a red state (aka Trump Country), I encounter people on a daily basis that love to talk about conspiracy theories. In fact any current news issue I dare bring up usually triggers them to respond with some elaborate, right wing media fueled conspiracy that they could easily fact check but don't.

I read an article that suggested the best way to respond to an incorrect statement is by asking (calmly): "What news source did you get that information from?"

I've tried it and usually I get a response like: "I don't know. Somewhere. Can't remember" or "from a YouTube channel." Or if they feel cornered, they'll just quickly change the subject to the weather or sports. Honestly as I get older my patience with hearing this BS is getting shorter. Especially after enduring 4 years of Donald "The Conspiracy Theorist In Chief" Trump and his henchmen.

And if god forbid Republicans take back Congress in 2023, America is going to helplessly slide even deeper down the "everything is a conspiracy" rabbit hole.

Who loves mentioning higher gas prices more?

Republican lawmakers or the news networks?

They both seem breathlessly giddy to blame both higher gas prices and inflation on Biden.

Without offering viewers any larger global context and letting Republicans score political points instead of pressing them for any ideas of their own. And "finishing the Keystone Pipeline extension" doesn't count as a plan.

At least Biden is trying everything he possibly can to deal with this problem. All while facing an opposition party that is rooting for prices to get even higher so they can take back Congress in November.
