Stress rises for unemployed as extra $600 benefit nears end
WASHINGTON (AP) A major source of income for roughly 30 million unemployed people is set to end, threatening their ability to meet rent and pay bills and potentially undercutting the fragile economic recovery.
In March, Congress approved an extra $600 in weekly unemployment benefits as part of its $2 trillion relief package aimed at offsetting the impact of the coronavirus pandemic. That additional payment expires next week unless it gets renewed.
For Henry Montalvo, who was furloughed from his job as a banquet server and bartender in Phoenix in mid-March, the expiration of the $600 will cut his unemployment benefits by two-thirds. He uses the money to help support his three children and pregnant girlfriend.
Now that its about to end, that grim and uneasy feeling is coming back and really fast, Montalvo said.

Next Friday People will get their last $600 unemployment from the Federal government
My neighbors have no idea what they are going to do. There are no jobs in my area for people to find. We are locked down due to COVID-19.
Should the USA have a debt jubilee like Germany did in 1947?
This virus is not going away and there is no cure. Millions of renters starting in September will have debts they can not possible pay. A debt jubilee could be applied to renters and land owners that cater to renters. IMHO. YMMV.
Citing surging cases, the Los Angeles and San Diego school districts will be remote-only in the fall
Source: LA Times
Californias two largest public school districts said Monday that instruction will be remote-only in the fall, citing concerns that surging coronavirus infections in their areas pose too dire a risk for students and teachers.
The Los Angeles and San Diego unified school districts, which together enroll some 825,000 students, are the largest in the country so far to abandon plans for even a partial physical return to classrooms when they reopen in August.
More than a third of Californias coronavirus cases are in Los Angeles County and San Diego County has had 18 community outbreaks over the past week, more than double the states acceptable threshold.

E. Oregon County Commisioner Candidate Admits writing fake hate message
https://www.eastoregonian.com/news/local/county-commission-candidate-confesses-to-writing-racist-letter/article_352052b0-bfba-11ea-8e32-67b1b9e99a65.htmlOn Monday, July 6, Edmiston said in an email that Lopez had confessed that he wrote the letter. Edmiston said the case would be forwarded to the Umatilla County District Attorneys office for review for initiating a false report, a Class A misdemeanor in Oregon.
From the onset, this alleged incident has been thoroughly investigated, Edmiston wrote in an email. Our investigation has shown that Mr. Lopez wrote the letter himself and made false statements to the police and on social media. The end result is a verbal and written admission by Mr. Lopez that the letter was fabricated.
Lopez had previously posted a photo of a typed letter full of racist, homophobic and misogynist slurs to Facebook, stating that he had received the letter but that he had no resentment for whomever wrote this.
Donald Trump is an Idiot!
I hope this is allowed. The constitution is not a suicide pact!

When Can you talk about presidential candidates in General Discussion?
I have receive two strikes when I wrote about Biden or the presidential election. In the rules I don't see anything about writing about candidates for president. Where are the rules that spell this out?
Some of my neighbors will run out of unemployment in a few weeks. POLL
This is very concerning for all of us! 40 million people are unemployed.
Should the US Government extend unemployment benefits and the $600 bonus for the unemployed?
We don't need to increase tax credits for health insurance. We need to implement Medicare for all
and a flat 5% income tax on all income no matter the source. If Democrats control the house, senate and white house then they shoukld get rid of the filibuster in the Senate and vote Medicare for all in.
