Interesting take on Trump's financial entaglements and tax breaks
Trumpnado @Trumpnado2016 Dec 13
1/ The Trump Org is NOT a corporation. It is a mess of personally owned LLC's on Donald's personal income tax return. @Newsweek 2/ Because of the way Trump set up his biz, to personally benefit from tax losses, he CAN NOT disentangle personally. @kurteichenwald 3/ Trump's massive tax loss carry-forward was on his personal tax return, thus all income must ... @kurteichenwald 4/ ... must remain as personal income for Donald to be able to take advantage of this massive tax break. @kurteichenwald @nytimes 5/ so even if Donald wanted to, Trump can not afford to disentangle as personal owner of 500+ personal LLC's. 6/ NO ONE has been asking why he would have 500+ sole proprietorships/partnerships. It is the only way he can use these massive tax breaks. 7/ There are huge advantages of efficiency & capital to operate as a large real corporation, so Donald made this decision for this purpose. 8/ after decades of running his biz as 500+ LLC's, it would be financially impossible to untangle. Taking many years, if even possible. 9/ Trump CAN NOT untangle from personally benefiting from every deal made by Trump Org entities. He owns each one personally. 10/ most of these LLC's carry large debt from different banks, tied to that asset. Most have more debt than the asset is worth. 11/ with such massive debt, there is really no way to untangle this LLC mess of companies from Donald personally. 12/ further even if bankers allowed him to sell these biz's, he could not afford the massive tax payments that would result. 13/ selling these personal assets, even if saddled with massive debt would incur huge tax payments for Trump. He simply can't afford it. 14/ Trump also has massive annual expenses. Over $20 mil just for the Trump Tower retail condo. He must generate massive cash flow. 15/ And Wells Fargo owns the mortgage on Trump Tower retail condo, so yet another conflict of interest. 16/ Trump claims ownership of the Nike Store, but yet another lie, he only owns a land lease of questionable value. Block 1292 Lots 8,64,66 17/ NONE of the LLC's that own Nike Store are on Trump's FEC form. He rents the land from others. 18/ if you combine debt Trump has on Nike Store & 3 Trump Tower condos he owns, he's underwater, by a lot! Trump DOES NOT own Trump Tower 19/ Trump DOES NOT own 40 Wall St. He owns a land lease that is worth less than the debt he has on the property. 20/ When a land leases expires, all buildings/improvements on the property revert to property owner. 21/ Christian Hinneberg et al & other German partners OWN 40 Wall St. Trump just rents it from them. 22/ Trump has to get permission from the owner, Christian Hinneberg, to turn on the water at 40 Wall St. 23/ over 400 Trump LLC's are registered under highly secretive Delaware Corp laws. We have no idea who his partners are, or what debt 24/ Trump has set up a highly unusual labyrinth of secretive DE LLC's. There is no way he can, or will, disentangle his personal ownership. 25/ Trump requires a huge influx of new cash deals to service his massive existing expenses & debts, must make new deals or risk bankruptcy. 26/ No business journal has done a comprehensive estimate of Trump income/balance sheet/profit loss. It can be done, but has not. 27/ Hotels & golf courses are notorious for marginal profits or losses, yet Trump is claiming massive unrealistic income from these biz's. 28/ Trump is lying Trump biz's historically ALWAYS lose money. He profits from govt zoning gifts & condo deals we know are mostly dark money 29/ Trump could not run a golf course or hotel at a profit, simply impossible based on his horrible management record. 23/ Equitable Life Insurance of the USA developed Trump Tower & owned the land. Trump profited by bringing govt zoning gifts & ... 24/ ... being the front man for Equitable to partner with the mob, get ridiculous tax breaks & destroy a historic façade of Bonwitt Teller. https://twitter.com/Trumpnado2016/status/808666847491006469 1/ Don't believe anything Trump tells you about retail rent. He had to give sweetheart rent deals to attract ... @StudioFtB @kurteichenwald (((STOP))) Trumpnado @Trumpnado2016 Dec 13 2/ retail renters & when Trump was on the verge of bankruptcy I'd be too easy for Gucci & Nike to bargain rent WAY down. |

Could Trump help unleash nuclear catastrophe with a single Tweet?
Greg Sargent ✔ @ThePlumLineGS
Could Trump help unleash nuclear catastrophe with a single Tweet? Yes, arms control experts tell me:http://wapo.st/2hr2pp4 Donald Trump’s alarming Tweet about his desire to “greatly strengthen and expand” the “nuclear capability” of the United States unleashed a frenzy of media efforts to try to divine his actual policy intentions. It forced some of his advisers into tortured claims that Trump didn’t say what he actually said, even as others simultaneously insisted that Trump did meaningfully put other countries on notice that if he deems them to be challenging our supremacy, they will face an arms race.
But perhaps the most worrisome thing about Trump’s nuclear Tweet is not the intention to break with decades of international disarmament efforts that it may have signaled, though that’s frightening enough on its own. Rather, it’s that he saw fit to Tweet about nuclear weapons at all. As we prepare for President Trump to take near-unchecked control of our nuclear machinery, his nuclear Tweet is best seen as a window into his temperament. Trump still does not appreciate that every word he utters carries tremendous weight and could have dramatic, untold, far-reaching, unpredictable consequences — something that is especially true in the nuclear arena. Or, perhaps worse, Trump may be entirely indifferent to this fact. Arms control experts I spoke with suggested that Trump’s willingness to Tweet about nuclear weapons raises the possibility of Trump doing the same as president — and more to the point, the possibility of him doing so amid some species of international crisis or escalation. Jeffrey Lewis, a nuclear non-proliferation expert at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies, points out that in peacetime, any belligerent Trump Tweet about nuclear weapons might not appear as alarming, simply because “confirmation bias” might lead key actors not to interpret it in its most frightening light at that moment. Amid rising international tensions, though, that confirmation bias might work in the other direction, he says. https://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/plum-line/wp/2016/12/26/could-trump-help-unleash-nuclear-catastrophe-with-a-single-tweet/ |

New York state, amid investigation, bars Donald Trump from shutting down Trump Foundation
Trump appeared to be attempting to shutter the foundation before its years of scandalous activities could be used against him. But as it turns out, Trump is legally barred from shutting it down because it’s currently under investigation.
The official word came from New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, whose office has informed the Boston Globe and Washington Post that it will not allow Trump to simply slam the door shut: “The Trump Foundation is still under investigation by this office and cannot legally dissolve until that investigation is complete.” The investigation by the state of New York, where the Trump Foundation operates out of, is based on a myriad of suspicious and illegal activities. The charity has done virtually no charitable work since 2009, even as Donald Trump illegally used its remaining funds to purchase personal items such as a painting of himself. http://www.palmerreport.com/news/new-york-bars-donald-trump-shutting-trump-foundation-investigation/560/ |

"Trumps refusal to disclose his taxes prompts clever legislation in California"
I’m confident that this will pass because it’s California. If Der Trumpenfuehrer runs for re-election in 2020, this will, no doubt, end up in court and he will wear his little fingers to the bone tweeting about it. New York is considering similar legislation.
President-elect Donald Trump got away with never releasing his tax returns, despite the fact that virtually all other presidential candidates have done so for the past 40 years. But two California state Senators are authoring legislation that they say would make such disclosure a requirement — if the candidates want their names to appear on California ballots. State Senators Mike McGuire (D-Healdsburg) and Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) said that their bill is in direct response to Trump’s refusal to make his taxes public. Wiener stated: “The American public deserves to know that the individual they are selecting to be president will have their best interests at the heart of every decision, not the best interests of any business venture or investment fund. Requiring that this basic financial information be made available to voters will help build critical public trust.” Or as McGuire put it, “This legislation will help make transparency great again.” https://www.dailykos.com/story/2016/12/22/1613825/--Trump-s-refusal-to-disclose-his-taxes-prompts-clever-legislation-in-California |

Nine Lessons of Russian Propaganda
![]() https://twitter.com/SolidBlue2012/status/812449348294426624 5. Headlines are more important than reality, especially while first impressions are forming. During recent protests by Russian truck drivers, Russia's transport minister staged a meeting with counterfeit truckers before the media. They also seem to have invented Syrian opposition leaders with whom they held negotiations. It did not matter that the "humanitarian aide" convoys to Eastern Ukraine were eventually revealed to the whole world as ammunition resupplies. For two weeks coverage of the war focused on Russia's "humanitarian aide." First impressions are known to be extremely sticky. They persist even after subsequent evidence is conclusive. Consequently, Russian propaganda seems to fight hard for the first impression and then relent. When opposition politician Boris Nemtsov was assassinated, they quickly spun several elaborate theories which played on Russian news. Their propaganda about neo-Nazis dominated coverage of Ukraine's revolution, even after multiple statements and an open letter from the leaders of Ukraine's Jewish community. In support of the Nazi narrative, Russian state television even reported fake results of Ukraine's 2014 election, stating that now-President Poroshenko lost the race to Right Sector leader Dmytro Yarosh. (In reality Yarosh received about 1.5% of the vote.) Obviously, anybody paying attention would find out this was nonsense within days, if not hours, but being proved wrong does not seem to matter to them. Perhaps the consider distant half-interested parties as their target audience -- people who cannot devote enough attention to the issue. Such people will see an initial chaos of contradictory information and conclude the situation is too complicated to understand, and that the truth is probably somewhere in the middle. They're remarkably successful. No matter audacious, Russian lies delivered from semi-official sources succeed in muddying the waters, and preventing the formation of clear impressions that recognize the reality of what is happening. http://smallwarsjournal.com/jrnl/art/nine-lessons-of-russian-propaganda |
