Quemado's JournalSeeking advice: my wife and I are of different religions.
My wife is a devout Catholic. I told her several weeks ago that I was starting to meditate, though I did not tell her specifically tell her that I was following an Eastern religion that has elements of Christianity in it. I kept my practice private. Today, as I was watching a YouTube video on TV that that was based on this Eastern religion in our living room, she happened to walk in and see the presentation. She became rather upset. She became cold toward me. I do not expect her to change religions, but I would hope that she would at least become tolerant of my choice to practice the teachings of this Eastern religion. Do you have any advice for me? I do not wish for this situation to become worse.
Please be respectful and tolerant.
Thank you.

Even the Statue of Liberty is getting in on the fun.
My theory as to why the polls were wrong in 2016 and 2020.
I'm not a statistician, or a pollster, or any kind of expert on polling. This is just my gut feeling/opinion.
As far as I know, a poll does not determine the honesty of a response. There's no requirement to give an honest response to a poll. There's no repercussion to lying to a poll. I think this is what caused the polls in 2016 and 2020 to be not totally accurate.
One of Trump's main characteristics is that he is a liar. His followers don't hold that against him. Trump uses lies to get his way. So, it may be safe to assume that Trump's followers believe lying is OK.
What's the benefit of lying to a poll? My theory is that a certain percentage of Trump supporters lied to the polls in the hope of skewing the results.
Why would they want to skew poll results? Not everyone, but a certain percentage of potential voters pay close attention to the polls.
For example, If you consider yourself a Biden supporter, and you follow the polls, and you see that Biden is up by (for example) 8 points in your state, you may think to yourself: "Biden is going to win my state; I don't need to vote." But that 8 point poll margin in favor of Biden is likely to be skewed because of lying on the part of Trump supporters. And, because of the skewed poll results, some potential voters don't vote because they think Biden is going to win their state.
Catholic deacon told congregation not to vote for Biden.
I was not present when this happened, but I heard it from two sources, one of which was in the congregation and heard the deacon. I will refer to this person as the "Source".
"Source" was at mass on a Saturday about 2 weeks ago. According to the "Source", the deacon expressed his personal beliefs on this election. The deacon told the congregation not to vote for Biden. The deacon said that Biden was going to turn this country communist. The "Source walked out and others did also.
The next day (Sunday) at 9 am mass, the parish priest told the congregation that he spoke to the deacon twice and apologized for what the deacon said. It was not nice or good. Despite what the parish priest said, the parish priest put democrats down also.
The "Source" has voted already, and voted for Biden. The "Source is tired of Trump's lies, foul language, and his bully ways.
I'm already looking for a new church.

Immediate Remedy For USPS Sabotage
According to the Daily Kos, (https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2020/8/13/1968935/-Immediate-Remedy-For-USPS-Sabotage):
Washington, Oregon, Hawaii, Colorado, and Utah use 100% vote-by-mail in their elections. These states should go to the Supreme Court in a lawsuit against Trump and DeJoy (postmaster general) so that under the original Jurisdiction rules in the constitution the case can be brought directly to the Supreme Court, commencing with a request for a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction.
18 US Code Section 1701 et seq. makes intentional delay or obstruction of the U.S. mail by any person a federal crime.
The Grifters, chapter 1 - Kodak
https://www.epsilontheory.com/the-grifters-chapter-1-kodak/On Tuesday afternoon (July 28, 2020), the White House announced that Kodak a public company with less than $100 million in market cap, basically a pension fund with a famous brand name attached would receive $765 million in loans from the US government to create a pharmaceutical start-up that over a period of 8 YEARS will start making pharmaceutical supplies. Whatever the hell that means.
This $765 million in non-recourse, non-secured loans for pharmaceutical supply production, given to this micro-cap company with zero experience or expertise in pharmaceutical supply production, comes from the International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), a $60 billion piggy bank established by the Trump administration in 2019 to replace the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC).
Yes, international development and overseas investment.
On the corporate-grift side, its Kodak Chairman and CEO Jim Continenza (SEC CIK 0001197594), who picked up about 3 million shares and cheap options over the past year. Its Kodak board member George Karfunkel (SEC CIK 0001085765), of the private equity and banking Zyskind-Karfunkel family, with his 6.4 million shares. Its Kodak board member Philippe Katz (SEC CIK 0001579836), who owns about 4.3 million shares through at least five shell companies.
Oh, wait, you thought Jim had a background in manufacturing or pharmaceuticals? Hahahahahahaha. Hooo, boy, thats rich. No, no Jim is a marketing guy. Shocking, I know.
Based on yesterdays closing price of $33.20 for the stock, I figure Jim and George and Philippe have made about $400 million over the past 48 hours.
The numbers looked even better when Kodak hit $53 earlier earlier in the day, but easy come, easy go.
On the government-grift side, its Donald Trump, who gets a press conference and a talking point.
Its Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who sit on the DFC board of directors and approved this deal, each pocketing a favor.
Its Larry Kudlow, University of Rochester alum and friend of Kodak, who pockets a BIG favor.
Its Adam Boehler, 41 year-old CEO of the DFC, who cements a lucrative career once his government service is complete.
Crony capitalism. In its purest form.
