Biden Hater's Banners That Town Called Obscene Can Stay Up, Court Rules

Source: NY Times

A New Jersey woman can leave up several banners that use what local officials called an obscenity to express her hostility toward President Joe Biden, a state court ruled Tuesday.

The ruling came after the woman, Andrea Dick of Roselle Park, enlisted the American Civil Liberties Union of New Jersey to fight a municipal judge’s order that she take the banners off a fence outside the house where she lives with her mother or face $250 a day in fines.

After the civil liberties group joined the case, Roselle Park officials backpedaled on their earlier demand that Dick take down the banners and effectively dropped the matter.

“I feel amazing,” Dick, 54, said after the Superior Court of New Jersey dismissed the case, which was brought against her mother, Patricia Dilascio, who owns the home where the banners have hung since the Memorial Day weekend.

Bear attack: rangers shoot killer grizzly in night vision ambush

Source: The Guardian

A grizzly bear that pulled a California woman from her tent and killed her has been fatally shot by wildlife officials, who used night-vision goggles to stake out a chicken coop it had also raided near the small Montana town of Ovando.

They shot the bear shortly after midnight on Friday when it approached a trap set near the coop about two miles from Ovando where 65-year-old Leah Davis Lokan of Chico, California, was killed on Tuesday, said Greg Lemon with Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks.

Lokan, a nurse, was on a mountain biking trip. She and two companions were camping behind the Ovando post office when she was attacked.

The estimated 400-pound (181kg) bear awakened Lokan and her companions in a nearby tent about 3am on Tuesday, officials said. After the bear ran away, the campers removed food from their tents, secured it and went back to sleep, Montana wildlife officials said.

Sha'Carri Richardson, a Track Sensation, Tests Positive for Marijuana

Source: NY Times

The American sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson, who was set for a star turn at the Tokyo Olympics this month, could miss the Games after testing positive for marijuana.

Richardson, 21, won the women’s 100-meter race at the U.S. track and field trials in Oregon last month, but her positive test automatically invalidated her result in that marquee event.

The United States Anti-Doping Agency announced the positive test result Friday morning, and said Richardson had accepted a suspension of one month, starting on June 28. That could clear her in time to run in the 4x100 meter relay that takes place later in the Games — if she is named to the U.S. team.

In an interview with NBC on Friday, Richardson blamed the positive test on her use of marijuana as a way to cope with the unexpected death of her biological mother while she was in Oregon for the Olympic trials. Richardson, who was raised by her grandmother, said she learned about the death from a reporter during an interview and called it triggering and “definitely nerve-shocking.”
