Mercy Health declares COVID 'disaster' amid overcapacity, staff shortage in Muskegon

MUSKEGON, MI – Mercy Health officials dealing with a COVID-19 “disaster” in Muskegon have put out the call for nurses they need to open one and possibly three floors to care for patients at the shuttered Hackley Hospital.

Retired or otherwise inactive but licensed RNs and LPNs are needed to help as COVID-19 cases overwhelm current space and staff, said Kim Maguire, chief nursing officer and vice president of patient care services for Mercy Health Muskegon.

“We need all hands on deck, honestly,” she said.

The hospital’s COVID inpatient count grew to 140 Monday, Nov. 16. COVID patients occupy about half of the hospital’s beds, Maguire told MLive.

The staffing shortage is exacerbated by employees themselves being infected with COVID, which numbered 111 on Monday, she said.

The hospital is bringing in agency nurses to help, but also is competing with hospitals across the country who are in the same boat.

Michigan enacts new coronavirus restrictions on restaurants, bars, schools

An order on the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) website limits bars and restaurants to outdoor dining, carryout and delivery. Casinos and movie theaters will be closed. Gyms are allowed to remain open, but group classes are prohibited.

High schools and university must conduct all classes remotely, according to the order.

Indoor gatherings in residences are limited to 10 people from two households, while outdoor gatherings are limited to 25 people as long as they can practice social distancing.

“In the spring, we listened to public health experts, stomped the curve, and saved thousands of lives together. Now, we must channel that same energy and join forces again to protect our families, frontline workers and small businesses,” Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) said Sunday.

“Right now, there are thousands of cases a day and hundreds of deaths a week in Michigan, and the number is growing. If we don’t act now, thousands more will die, and our hospitals will continue to be overwhelmed. We can get through this together by listening to health experts once again and taking action right now to slow the spread of this deadly virus,” she added.

Stay as far away from them as possible, if you must go near them & be completely safe wear their scent, a maga hat or something that identifies you as one of them. If they do happen to catch on that you are normal don't panic, they are slow and very dimwitted, just point to a shiny object or, in extreme cases, go to the nearest car & set off its alarm, the noise will draw them away as you make your escape.

Don't try to talk to them, their systems cannot take rational dialog and they will immediately regurgitate it back as fake news or twist it into some conspiracy. This could also cause them to turn on you (refer to notes above if that happens)
