This is why we say "defund the police"

I don't know if many people know how genuinely disproportionate and skewed our overall funding for police is in most major cities. I certainly didn't until recently.

LA recently said it will cut it's police budget by 100-150 million. It sounded like a lot at first, but if you look at that chart, you can tell we can do a lot better than that. Cities should not just be entire police departments with some minor services on the side.

Oh and here's a picture of an LAPD Lamborghini parked in a disabled spot:

Los Angeles Times: "LA Schools Will Return Grenade Launchers, Keep Rifles"

Los Angeles Unified school police officials said Tuesday that the department will relinquish some of the military weaponry it acquired through a federal program that furnishes local law enforcement with surplus equipment. The move comes as education and civil rights groups have called on the U.S. Department of Defense to halt the practice for schools.

The Los Angeles School Police Department, which serves the nation’s second-largest school system, will return three grenade launchers but intends to keep 61 rifles and a Mine Resistant Ambush Protected armored vehicle it received through the program.

Political and environmental activist Paula Jean Swearengin won the West Virginia Democratic primary Tuesday evening.
Swearengin edged out former West Virginia State Senator Richard Ojeda and attorney Richie Robb.

Swearengin will now face-off with Republican incumbent Senator Shelley Moore Capito in November.

"What's humbled me the most is a lot of West Virginias that had to move out of state because there were not opportunities here, they have worked on our campaign because they just wanted to come home, so it's been really incredible," Swearengin said. "I'm really humbled."

curious: do you believe you have ever been a victim of institutional racism?

I have a few times, but not close to as much as others. Have you ever been targeted because of your race or felt your life endangered by the police because of your race, skin color or religion? Sorry I know this is a loaded question, but I am just curious what you have to say.

New CNN Poll: Biden 55 Trump 41

This is some very good news 5 months out.

No doubt he’ll claim it is fake news, but a new CNN general election poll has President Trump lagging a massive 14 percentage points behind Joe Biden, at 41 percent to the former VP’s 55 percent. The poll of 1,259 adults also saw a significant majority of Americans surveyed say racism is a big problem in the country today and that the criminal-justice system in America favors whites over blacks.
