How Tea Party Budget Battles Left the National Emergency Medical Stockpile Unprepared for Coronavirus
Fiscal restraints imposed by Republicans in Congress in the early years of the Obama administration left the U.S. less prepared to respond to the coronavirus pandemic today.

Social distancing works - just ask lobsters, ants and vampire bats

Social distancing to combat COVID-19 is profoundly impacting society, leaving many people wondering whether it will actually work. As disease ecologists, we know that nature has an answer.
Animals as diverse as monkeys, lobsters, insects and birds can detect and avoid sick members of their species. Why have so many types of animals evolved such sophisticated behaviors in response to disease? Because social distancing helps them survive.
-----
Altruism makes us human
Human behavior in the presence of disease also bears the signature of evolution. This indicates that our hominid ancestors faced many of the same pressures from contagious disease that we are facing today.
Like social ants, we are protecting the most vulnerable members of our society from COVID-19 infection by ensuring that older individuals and those with pre-existing conditions stay away from potentially contagious people. Like monkeys and bats, we also practice nuanced social distancing, reducing non-essential social contacts while still providing essential care for sick family members.

"Altruism is what makes us human."
Let that sink in, folks.
What does this say about grifters.
I really wish our, oh "superior" species would behave with the integrity of ants & bats!

Trump administration battered by doctor for creating bureaucratic nightmare to get patients on USNS Comfort
Published 16 mins ago on April 3, 2020By Tom Boggioni
Appearing on CNN on Friday morning, two doctors harshly criticized Donald Trumps administration for sending the Navy hospital ship U.S.N.S. Comfort to New York City with so many restrictions regarding the coronavirus epidemic that it is hardly being used.
Speaking with New Day hosts John Berman, who called the inability to fully utilize the ship as a bureaucratic mess, one doctor said the ship is basically worthless because no COVID-19 patients will be allowed on but no one can be sent to the ship until they have been tested and there are few test kits available.
This is what happens when putin runs our country!
Repost - Propublica: Taxpayers Paid Millions to Design a Low-Cost Ventilator for a Pandemic. Instead
[link:https://www.propublica.org/article/taxpayers-paid-millions-to-design-a-low-cost-ventilator-for-a-pandemic-instead-the-company-is-selling-versions-of-it-overseas-|
As coronavirus sweeps the globe, there is not a single Trilogy Evo Universal ventilator developed with government funds in the U.S. stockpile. Meanwhile, Royal Philips N.V. has sold higher-priced versions to clients around the world.
Five years ago, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services tried to plug a crucial hole in its preparations for a global pandemic, signing a $13.8 million contract with a Pennsylvania manufacturer to create a low-cost, portable, easy-to-use ventilator that could be stockpiled for emergencies.
This past September, with the design of the new Trilogy Evo Universal finally cleared by the Food and Drug Administration, HHS ordered 10,000 of the ventilators for the Strategic National Stockpile at a cost of $3,280 each.
We sell to whoever calls, said a saleswoman at a small medical-supply company on Staten Island that bought 50 Trilogy Evo ventilators from Philips in early March and last week hiked its online price from $12,495 to $17,154. We have hundreds of orders to fill. I think America didnt take this seriously at first, and now everyones frantic.
