Tomconroy's JournalYou don't have to read it because sometimes I do.
Dr. Gottlieb in his Twitter feed just pointed out that on Nov. 23 South Africa began including the results of antigen (which I think means free flow) tests in their case totals. Obviously that would result in a sudden increase in total cases.
I'm not sure why I'm putting this up. Ever the voice of calm
reason Dr. Ding referred to it on his hysterical twitter feed. What I get out of it is that probably the vaccines protect against O. You can judge for yourself:

Is the travel ban on South Africa a good idea?
As usual, I've been reading a bit. Some people like Dr. Gottlieb think the travel ban is a bad idea. The argument seems to be that
1. They don't seem to work. Testing and quarantines might do as well.
2. The bans are punishing to tourist dependent countries.
3. When a new variant is discovered in a third world country, that country will hide the fact rather than engage in the admirable openess about the virus that South Africa has displayed. No country will want to pay the price that South Africa is about to pay.
The WHO is against it.
