Covid 19 is not unique in having some long term effects.

I put this article up some months ago. It is by Prof Marc Veldoen, a world renown immunilogist whose articles have been cited some 22000 times in other scientific journals. It is a very clear, well written article explaining our present knowledge (and we know a great deal) about the SARS covid 19 Corona virus.
Rather than relying on annonymous posters on DU who purport to claim knowledge of the disease, read through this.
It explains that long term effects of covid are not unique. They can occur in a number of viruses. It also explains how our immunity systems have rapidly responded to the disease and why we are not going back to 2020 or even 2022, rather the virus is headed to being seasonal, just like the flu. There is no need to panic over each slight variance to the covid virus. We have already adapted.
It would be helpful if every one referred to this article the next time some annonymous poster puts up the latest bit of covid fear porn, but I don't have a lot of hope.

And for those who do xitter here's a thread or two on why you shouldn't listen to fear mongers this fall:

Regarding Mitch McConnell and Ukraine

He is key to US continuing support. Try to damp down the DU hate a little. He is willing to face the wrath of the majority of republican voters to do what is right for Ukraine. This is what President Kennedy called a Profile in Courage.
From a Washington Post newsletter this AM:

McConnell has made it a personal priority to ensure Ukraine has the resources it needs.

At a closed-door lunch for Republican senators Wednesday, he briefly spoke about Ukraine aid and the need to keep funding its war against Russia, nudging those present to support funding, according to Sen. Todd Young (R-Ind.), who attended the meeting.

“There’s no doubt that Leader McConnell will make a compelling argument and put a lot of energy, resources into persuading others to follow his lead,” Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) said.

McConnell this week said that “the Senate’s top priority must be keeping the American people safe. This month, he said, “we’ll have the chance to do that with supplemental appropriations for urgent national security and disaster relief priorities,” referring to a funding request of more than $20 billion from the Biden administration to further aid Ukraine.

On Wednesday he went a step further, suggesting two challenging issues could be linked: passing a short-term funding bill to keep the government open, known as a continuing resolution (CR), and the Ukraine aid requested by the White House.

NY Times Dealbook: How oil's surge is upsetting the global status quo

How oil’s surge is upending the global status quo
Brent crude oil was trading this morning at around $90 a barrel for the second straight day, and is up 25 percent since June thanks to the prospect of more production cuts by leading oil exporters.

The surge is sending ripples through the global stock and bond markets. And the prospect of higher prices at the pump and throughout manufacturing may spur diplomatic efforts to increase supply and tamp down any inflationary effects on the global economy.

Saudi Arabia and Russia are behind the price increase. The two said yesterday that they would extend their oil production cuts — equivalent to a combined 1.3 million barrels a day — through year-end. The duration of the cuts surprised market watchers, as did Saudi Arabia’s hint that it may make even deeper cuts in the coming months.

The latest from Ukraine: Ukraine takes the high ground south of Robotyne

Operational silence continues but it's pretty clear Ukraine has occupied hill 166 or The Boot as it was referred to in last night's Reporting from Ukraine video.
This is the highest point between Robotyne-Verbove and the strategic city of Tokmak.
Russia appears to be scraping reinforcements from other fronts but it doesn't appear to be working.
Ukraine released a video yesterday of tanks they have in reserve.
September is going to be a critical month!
