From my Campaign Website: Homage with Limited Comment (9/11 Tribute)

I grew up in the Catskill Mountains, coming to Arizona in 1997. I will always remember where I was and what I was doing when I found out this happened.

Tonight, please hug your children, kiss your spouse or partner if you aren’t married, thank a veteran, and shake the hands of those that would give their lives to save and protect yours.

Please remember how precious life is. Please remember what happens when anger and hatred take over. I have very little to say about this topic because words take away from the gravity of what happened. The victims are the focus, not some would-be politician's words.

Depleted by drought, Lakes Powell and Mead were doomed from the beginning

Source: Wash. Post via MSN

For the first time, the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation issued a water shortage for Lake Mead starting in 2022. Located between southern Nevada and northwestern Arizona, Lake Mead provides water and generates electricity for the more than 20 million people in the lower Colorado River Basin.

This shortage isn’t a surprise. Water levels at Lake Mead and Lake Powell to the northeast have already reached historic lows amid the summer drought. By January, the bureau projects water levels at Lake Mead to fall to 1,065.85 feet — nine feet below the first shortage trigger elevation. Levels on Lake Powell, which stores water for the Upper Colorado River Basin, are only marginally better, projected to be just 45 feet above the required elevation to produce hydropower.

The overall situation is not good, but why? This whole reservoir system along the Colorado River Basin was designed to get us through the drought years. Why isn’t it working? A glimpse into the history of the system, how it was designed and the impacts of climate change sheds light on why it was destined to fail — and why it may never recover.

I said this on my official campaign blog We need to rework the 1922 Colorado Protocol or else the western states reliant on the Colorado River will dry up and wither

Schools become political 'battlefield' in culture wars Trump cultivated

Schools have become the focal point for culture war fights that animated former President Donald Trump's base and have been advanced by conservative activists and influencers since he left office.

Conservative grassroots activists have zeroed in on local education policy with a tea party-esque fervor for months — spanning debates about reopening, how to teach U.S. history and required masking. Now, conservative personalities are urging followers to run for school board seats that have rarely generated much interest, while dozens of activist groups focused on schools have sprouted to advance the fights.

The influence of the effort can be seen at nearly all levels of school administration. State legislators have passed bills to restrict what can be taught. Republican governors are locked in standoffs with school administrators over district masking policies. School board meetings have devolved into shouting matches, and some have even turned violent.

Longtime operators in the education world say they've never seen anything like it.

I've always known we teachers are the enemy and blamed for every social ill since the beginning of time. Now it's just more out in the open.

Texas Gov. Abbott defends new abortion law, vows to 'eliminate all rapists'

Source: NBC News through AOL

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott defended the state's restrictive new abortion law Tuesday, saying it doesn't force victims of rape to give birth and vowing to "eliminate all rapists."

Abbott, a Republican, took questions from reporters Tuesday morning after an event at which he signed a sweeping election bill into law. Asked whether the abortion law would force rape victims to give birth, he said: "It doesn't require that at all, obviously. It provides at least six weeks for a person to get an abortion."

The law, known as Senate Bill 8, went into effect last Wednesday after the Supreme Court didn't act to block it. It bans an abortion once fetal cardiac activity can be detected, which can be as early as six weeks into a pregnancy, before many people are even aware that they are pregnant. Because pregnancy is measured from the first day of the last menstrual cycle — about two weeks before conception — victims of sexual assault have no more than four weeks to obtain abortions under the new law.

"Rape is a crime, and Texas will work tirelessly to make sure that we eliminate all rapists from the streets of Texas," said Abbott, who added, "There are services available to support victims of rape in the state to make sure that anybody who's victimized will get the support they need."

These are the hills the GOP wants to die on? COVID, voting, and abortion. As I ask on the campaign trail, how do fighting mask/vaccine, restricting voting, and punishing choice put food on the table?

Canada's Trudeau hit by gravel on campaign trail dogged by anti-vax hecklers

Canadian Liberal Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was hit by a handful of gravel on Monday, television images show, as he made his way to his campaign bus past a crowd shouting their opposition to COVID-19 vaccines.

A CTV camera captured what looks to be white gravel hitting Trudeau and one of his bodyguards as he walked toward his campaign bus in London, Ontario. The Liberals canceled an event late last month because of safety concerns linked to anti-vax protesters.

Trudeau played down the incident on his plane later, saying he may have been hit on the shoulder, and once he had pumpkin seeds thrown at him, according to a video posted on Twitter by Global News TV reporter Abigail Bimman.

Earlier on Monday, Trudeau assailed Conservative leader Erin O'Toole's opposition to vaccine mandates, including for his own candidates, and called the hecklers "angry mobs" of anti-vaxxers.

From my Campaign Website: Is this the hill the Republicans want to die on?

We had a massive uptick last year, we’re seeing another now. Now that we have vaccines and science has proven masks help (but don’t completely) stop the spread of this completely preventable disease (just like safer sex help stop the spread of the completely preventable disease of HIV and AIDS), Republicans in Arizona have decided to fall in line with every anti-vax and knee-jerk conspiracy theory.

I would ask them to stop, but as Sun Tzu said in his book “The Art of War,” all I can say officially is “Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.”

Republicans can continue this, as Joel John follows his party. Arizonans in LD4 deserve better than Joel John. We deserve Aram Katz in the Arizona House of Representatives.

COVID19 attacked a family in the Vail School District in Vail, AZ outside of Tucson

I will start by saying that I can't stand my brother's ex-wife and was against the marriage from the start.

That said, after they were divorced, she and my brother have joint custody of their two children, and she has had three with her live in boyfriend since.

Her oldest from the other man go to the same school my niece and nephew go to. He came home with COVID and infected the entire house, including my niece and nephew.

Of the five children, the oldest is my niece at 9 years old. All seven in that house now have COVID, the Delta variant.

Gov. Ducey, this is completely your fault.

On a side note, my district is on a Native American Nation outside of Tucson. We've had four exposures to COVID19 and my superintendent shut the schools (all of them) down for two weeks due to it as infections rise.

Luckily, being on a Native American reservation, we can and do ignore Gov. Double Fudge Ripple.
