(31,233 posts)satisfy the "activists"? How long do we shut down the government for something that wasn't going anywhere? Trump and the GOP had nothing to lose by waiting us out. Their approval numbers were already in the toilet, and they know that the longer this went on it would drag Democrats down as well.
There's a CNN poll out today that shows the American people agree with a path to citizenship for Dreamers, but they absolutely don't think DACA is worth shutting the government down. The commercials wrote themselves. CHIP was being held hostage, and like it or not, at least 9 million children and their parents can rest easy for the time being.
If "Latin activists" want to change America's positive attitude toward Dreamers to a negative, they'll do exactly what you've laid out in your post.
