(17,146 posts)I am one "fuck you" away from being banned, probably. So I am careful (but why? This is only a website, one in which I feel unwelcome anyway. So why do I care? It's because I haven't found any other. Twitter, maybe, because it's more freewheeling, but also kind of awful.)
I see so many threads bashing Bernie Sanders for basically saying the sky is blue that I am sorely tempted to do that. When in fact, Sanders is a progressive, yes, and saying things that the Democratic Party really needs to listen to, and yet even Sanders isn't all that far left, in the history of leftism, anyway.
So many posters who laud MSNBC as the liberal answer, when it it just in fact a corporate news machine in love with ex-generals only because they happen to hate Trump as much as we do, but who are responsible for the ongoing war crime that is Iraq (this is why I listen to Counterspin and Democracy Now as an antidote to corporate media).
I see too many so-called "liberals" here who don't understand that it was the truly progressive policies of the past that made this country. FDR welcomed the hatred of bankers and rich people, while today's Democratic Party caters to them.
And, of course, if you are skeptical about the actual EFFECT of Russian meddling in the election (because I am skeptical that they actuall accomplished what we seem to think they did), you are labeled (here at least) a bot. I am also skeptical that Trump himself had anything to do with it. Sure, he is in debt up to his eyeballs to Russian mobsters and oligarchs and he has plenty of financial malfeasance we could get him on, but orchestrating a campaign with Russia to steal the election? Doubtful.
And it is also a bit ironic that we used to (back in the George W. Bush era) freely criticize opposition Democrats as spineless (because in those days many WERE) but now that sort of talk (even if it is true) gets your posts removed. This website started as a reaction to the Bush election. Yet it changed when Democrats gained power and became more establishment (for lack of a better word). Then the admonishment came to support all Democrats no matter how awful some of them might actually be. It's become a place where you cannot have substantive discussions of policy and how to achieve it. Instead it is about being on "Team Democrat" and it is the team sports aspects of this that despise. This, despite the obvious institutional failings of that party over the years. But we can't talk about it. You're either on the team or not.
