the presiding bishop of my church is a PhD in oceanography, so we are down with reality and scientific inquiry. We are not fundamentalists who take things such as the creation story in genesis as literal. we believe in evolution. but we also believe in what cultural anthropologists call "the sacred". and i think for many, many people that is still a basic need.
if you ever get the chance to witness a high anglican mass, do so. it is quite beautiful.
