or the Indian Independence movement or Cesar Chavez, or the Singing Revolution where the Baltic states gained independence from the Soviet Union, the Velvet Revolution, the fall of the Berlin Wall, the People Power Revolution in the Philippines, the Cedar Revolution in Lebanon, much of the women's suffrage movement in the U.S., tree sitters in New Zealand.

But sure, civility has never done a thing.

Also the violent protests against the Vietnam war were ineffective. The Weathermen's Days of Rage was an absolute dud. And there's a reason Nixon was happy when he was told in a briefing to expect increased violence among protestors. He literally wrote "Good" on the briefing.
