However my mother used one to stop a man who had been hiding behind some bushes and rushed her when she was walking home from work after getting off a bus in a rural area. She pulled a tiny revolver from her purse and fired two shots over his head and he ran. Had she hit him the rounds she fired would have probably just pissed him off. Her S&W LadySmith revolver was definitely a mouse gun. This incident occurred way back in the 1920s in Pennsylvania.
My daughter was alone in our house in a bad area of Tampa when the burglar alarm went off. She walked into the kitchen and found a man trying to force the sliding glass door open. She pointed a large caliber revolver at him and he ran. No shots fired. All ended well. Police were called and responded quickly but the burglar was long gone. We never had any further issues in that home.
Realistically most people are like me and even when they live in a bad area they will most likely never have a reason to use a firearm to stop an attack.
