(2,072 posts)I was commenting on the similarity DU shares with other social media like Facebook and Twitter. The recs, thumbs ups, "+1" directly correlate to a Facebook thumbs up or a twitter like or retweet. Mass adoption of sites like Twitter and Facebook make the inherent ills of social media more apparent, but the side effects have long been codified. I've been on the internet in its many forms for 25 years and I've been witness to trolling and bots since the 90s and before that I was aware of the addictive nature of dial-in BBS services. The point is whether it's the DU or Twitter or the comment section of an article on nytimes.com you're not going to ever completely avoid all the issues that are associated with human beings interacting with each other (or at least trying to interact).
