2. Of course, there are a lot of variables that go into how the news is covered.

A death of a well-known person on a weekend, like McCain's, is ideal, because you can stretch the coverage to fill lots of empty air that usually happens on weekends. But when breaking news happens, such as a shooting, you don't necessarily have a lot of people you can rely on to report it out.
