FedEx 705 is a DC-10 the company still uses. On April 7, 1994, an employee who was about to be fired for cause decided to kill a crew with hammers and crash the airplane they were flying so his ex-wife would receive the payout from his company-provided life insurance policy.

The crew had other ideas: while the pilot and flight engineer were beating the shit out of the disgraced employee, the first officer was busy throwing the plane all over the sky. Eventually they got the plane safely on the ground in Memphis and the cops hauled the attacker off. All three of the crew, sadly, have not been cleared to go back to commercial flying. The assailant is doing two consecutive life sentences in federal prison.

His wife did not receive the payout from his life insurance.

The moral of this story: do whatever the hell you have to do to end a threat.
