An Obama blowout is now a real possibility [View all]

Romney picking Paul Ryan as his running mate may be the most idiotic mistake made by a presidential candidate in a long, long time (except for Palin, but McCain was bound to lose regardless). I'm still in shock. This is a wonderful thing for the Obama campaign. This is a chance to completely discredit the Tea Party and the far-right and their ridiculous Ayn Rand fantasies. Now that the creator of the Ryan budget is Romney's VP pick, his wacko ideas are essentially being endorsed by Romney and being put front-and-center. Do you think people are cool with destroying Medicare as we know it? Hell no. Do they like gigantic tax cuts for the rich? Hell no. Do they like cutting government spending at levels never seen in modern politics? Hell no.

What once seemed like a very close, tight race now looks like it could turn into an absolute blowout (think 1936, 1964, 1984). I cannot believe the Romney campaign is this desperate and short-sighted. I could see Obama winning upwards of 400 electoral votes now. The House could flip back and Democrats could pick up Senate seats. This is incredible. Thoughts?

If so, the House and the Senate might well come along for the ride. gkhouston Aug 2012 #1
I'm actually inclined to think that's what Ryan was chosen to avoid. Lone_Star_Dem Aug 2012 #16

It will probably help Romney turn out the crazies, but it's going to hurt him a lot with seniors. gkhouston Aug 2012 #30
