(1,070 posts)I want to reply to you with the warmest caring and compassion. My earliest memories growing up were of my mother being overweight. She was not at a weight that hindered her from day to day, but it was noticeable. She tried diet pills and hypnotism, both of which DID NOT WORK ( I can not say that strongly enough ). It was only in the 1980s when she went to Weight Watchers that she lost 100 pounds, and according to quite a few people around here She looks fantastic.
It was only recently that I learned she did not want people seeing pictures of her during her overweight period which I fully understand. To think of seeing this woman smiling in the picture but on the inside she is just falling apart. It hurts me just to think about it. As for me from my earliest age I was always underweight. I once saw a book talking about the Neglected Underweight. My mother would constantly tell me to eat more, eat more. Shortly after I turned thirty I started taking an enzyme pill which helped me to come closer to a healthy body weight.
The issue that I see as detrimental to society is advertising campaigns from a Madison Avenue type of culture. That being Stay thin and body shame anyone that is overweight.
Again I feel for you.
