(2,194 posts)For example, I had a horrendous crisis of an infected tooth, with severe inflammation, swelling and pain the last time I was in Mexico that would have sent the average person straight to the emergency room. Luckily, I had a little bottle of Castor Oil on hand and massaged some of that Castor Oil into the submaxillary lymph nodes below the jawbone on the affected side. Castor Oil draws out pus and toxins, and that draining of the toxins from the lymph nodes enabled my immune system to overcome the infection, and within half an hour or so, the pain and swelling went down, and was totally gone by the following morning. I had used that remedy before for another abscessed tooth, so I knew it worked. However, I did follow up on that tooth, albeit a few months later, with a dentist when I was able to do so. Until I was able to get to the dentist, I was very aggressive and proactive with my dental hygiene.
Regarding pharmaceutical drugs, so many of them are just developed as a money making venture - there are usually older drugs on the market that work pretty well. and do the same thing - and usually without the horrendous sided effects. My teacher of Western Medicine in acupuncture school, who was a naturopathic doctor, ND, by training, said that 80% of the drugs currently in use were not in use 20 years ago. What happens? In spite of the animal testing and clinical trials, certain deleterious effects of the drugs become better known, and legal claims and lawsuits start to pile up. But never fear - if the pharmaceutical company has marketed their new drug aggressively in the beginning, they have made a ton of money, and the profits they have made easily outweigh the claims they have to pay out, and it's a winning venture - for the drug companies at least, but not for the victims.
So, if you're going to use a pharmaceutical drug, try sticking to those with a track record of safety and reliability that's at least 20 years old - preferably longer. At least everything is known about that drug.
Of all the positive things in my life, I am the most thankful for herbs and herbal medicine. Music and flutes would follow that closely.
