...especially contraceptives. Some are uncomfortable with publicly supporting abortion, but still don't want it outlawed.

The problem we have in this country is that the so-called moral majority seized the moral high ground on this issue decades ago. Or at least they claimed it was the moral high ground and were and are very loud. But in fact a very large number of women have had at least one abortion.
