14. The federal investigation of Cohen began before Avenatti took the Daniels case

Avenatti lucked out from a PR standpoint since the federal investigation of Cohen became public after the Daniels case got started. But the information about the payments to Daniels and to the other one whose name escapes me at the moment, we’re known back in January. That’s when Common Cause filed their FEC and DoJ complaints.

It was made clear from USAG filings in the Cohen case that their referral came in around mid to late a February at the latest. Avenatti had absolutely nothing to do with that.
