there is no "liberal movement", only a loose collection of separate narrow interest groups all of which believe that their particular special interest is "the most important".

"Global warming will wipe out all life on earth!"
"Oh, that doesn't matter because animals are being mistreated."
"That's not even worth thinking about. Marriage rights for gays is the only thing that really matters."
"How can you worry about things like that when peak oil is about to bring about the collapse of industrial civilization?"
"It doesn't matter that all of western civilization is about to collapse. Forget that. What we really need is that we have a majority in the House and Senate."
"Forget that! Did you hear what Rush Limbaugh said this morning?"
"Maybe you missed the part about 'The end of all life on earth.'"
"Don't be ridiculous. It will never happen. And besides, they're being mean to chickies."

And around and around it goes. "I don't belong to any organized political party. I'm a Democrat."
