I had the same surgery in June, now having a cow valve (yes, really). It went well, and I am now in pretty decent shape to hang around another couple of decades. The first weeks are not easy, as everything hurts from having your chest opened up the same way they pop the hood of a car, but I had no memory loss or other side effects, so that went about as well as it could. It takes a little working through, and you have to be patient. Cardiac Rehab is a great idea, and a good way to get back normal function and flexibility, even if it starts a bit slow. For the first couple of months, I was good for about 4-6 hours a day, then napping again. OK now though, and up to walking and doing pretty much as I like.
