(55,334 posts)33. It's a good, if shallow, question. And she gave a decent answer.
The problem is that race, as a category, is an inherently shallow topic.
Race as a historical problem that all Americans grapple with is a deep rich problem. It's something she could have explored and it would have offered a lot of insight to her thinking. Maybe the fact that she didn't explore & verbally perambulate the way Bill Clinton or Obama would have to offer fresh paradigms for our thinking tells us something about Gillebrand. I like her as a senator and she has the most anti-Trump voting record in the senate. So she's not unsubstantial. But she's not a paradigm shifter either.

I imagine she would admit that. She is very bright and knows she has limited name recognition.
