Had a medical problem, lots of blood draws over a short time, my inner elbow veins disappeared, probably in fear of the needle...
they can't use the other arm, for medical reasons, so now I have a chest port.
Now, with age, I notice the veins in the inside of my wrist look like a river delta, branching out all over the place, but the skin is too thin for blood draw, found out the hard way.
So maybe his hand is a good draw/insert place for him. Really can't see any other reason to have a bandaid there. But never have seen fresh blood thru a bandaid after needle stick, either.

Veins in the hand are fragile and only used if veins in the arm are shot.

I don't know but it would be odd to take blood from the hand for a blood test. nt

He might have had blood drawn for something. Sometimes if they can't hit a vein in the arm
