(8,774 posts)I live in (actually near) a town of <600 and the doctor at the IHS clinic is my prime physician. I had an appointment and labs done on 1/15 and was there again 1/18 to get med records sent to an oral surgeon. Maybe no money is going to fund the IHS from the Feds at present? I am at the clinic nearly every week, sometimes multiple times (am a geezer with multiple med problems and underwent 6 months of chemo and other treatments for lymphoma in 2018 and have ongoing treatment). There is no evidence at the IHS or at the Tribe they are being impacted at all by the Fed shutdown as far as day to day actions. The IHS employees at the clinic are employees of the Tribe and not Fed employees. The IHS and other jobs with the Tribe (housing, natural resources, casino, elder care, etc.) are not impacted because the employees are employed by Tribe not Feds (although much funding does come from Feds). But there are Fed employees in BIA and that administer the IHS and other programs which no doubt are impacted. The Fed source of funds one would assume will go dry without a budget and with a federal shut down.
