(53,410 posts)Following procedure in our government is actually quite important, especially for posterity. Everything our government does has to be proven to be above board. Its one of the most important ways ever that our elected and appointed officials are kept honest. It is how they are kept accountable to us, the people who elect them. Thats the reason they are told it is illegal to delete emails or any documentation of official government business. A paper trail has to be laid down.
Nadler cannot just choose to order up a subpoena for documents without asking for them first. It is an abuse of power which you yourself would probably disapprove of if the other side did it.
In court, if it comes to that it might be cause for dismissal of charges. It has to probably be proven that the person was asked to testify or turn over documents. Thus the letters requesting documentation be turned over.
If you want it to stick you have to follow procedure.
