The OP is a metaphor about the psychological dynamic of ideologues dealing with the inevitable decline of their ideology.

Everyone knows that US demographics will doom the current RW over the next generation, but rather than dealing with that reality the RW is more ideologically extreme than ever.

They have an Alamo mindset.

To people concerned with long-term economic rapine, like Karl Rove, it is frustrating. Rove is always talking about how to draw hispanics into the Republican fold, as a demographic necessity. But the RW true-believers want to shoot all the mexicans.

Rove doesn't want a suicide cult, he wants a permanent majority. Money and power. But when you live by exploiting ideologues you die by exploiting ideologues. The RW is beyond the control of the moneyed-interests that created it.
