In reply to the discussion: Colonoscopy... chicken broth for prep day? [View all]Jakes Progress
(11,213 posts)are your bowel movements regular? If you like the way your colon works right now, be prepared for a change. The totally cleansing preps kill the bacteria in your gut. That bacteria makes your bathroom routine what it is. It will take a few weeks to rebuild a bacterial culture in your gut. That new culture may work your colon differently.
Cancer isn't to be taken lightly, so a colonoscopy is needed. I just wish there was a way for them to leave some of your bacteria in to begin recolonizing your colon.
I hesitated to post this as it might be seen as a knock on the procedure, which at my age I have had done three times. I am not anti-colonoscopy. I guess you could say I was pro-gut biome. It was on my third colonoscopy that my regularity changed. I think they have more effective bacteria cleansing procedures now which wipes out the innards more thoroughly. I can see why the doctors like it, but it I just wish they would study the effects better. That said, I just took the prep without food. I think if I had used of the methods mentioned above would have helped.
