(15,556 posts)Out here beyond the beltway, particularly in my kids' generation, people are looking for some aggressive action. Pelosi seems to be dragging her feet.
Her public castigation of these four young women will probably backfire.
Democratic party leaders need to remember they lead at the sufferance of the base, and the base is getting restless, hungry for action. Same-old, same-old hasn't gotten us anywhere and our situation is the worst it has ever been.
Trump is about to order ICE to round up a million people, for God's sake! Just like the fucking nazis did when they were in power. I'd say that's pretty dire.
The fucking private for-profit concentration camps are dire.
Climate change is dire.
Healthcare is dire.
These credible rape accusations against Trump are dire.
We need movement forward, and we don't seem to be going anywhere. It's gotten ugly because these new kids are not afraid to get ugly. They will turn on the Democratic leadership if it doesn't seem like they are getting any action.
When will we get serious?
As to AOCs staffer - he needs to publicly apologize. But then it is done. Because we cannot cloud these dire issues and the urgency of winning in 2020 with shit like this. It's gonna be another stupid circular firing squad. The republicans stay on point no matter what. That's why they win.
We don't. We rip each other's guts out and in the meantime are giving an operational message of cowardice to an entire younger generation of voters.
I don't disagree with these four women, or with the millions and millions of millennials who are engaged by people like AOC.
