(2,846 posts)19. The Mueller Pardon, & who needs cable tv
MSNBC's surge has slowed, with Maddow slipping into fifth place overall with a total audience of 2.487 million viewers, behind Hannity (3.332 million), Tucker Carlson Tonight (3.145 million),
I cancelled cable tv april 01 2019, after mueller report was released, due to disillusionment & not wanting to listen to fox braggadocio vs liberal monday morning quarterbacking. I now just get pbs newshour free using rabbit ears on the flat screen.
I thought surely trump would get his comeuppance from mueller since there were so many blatant or implied violations trump was guilty of, but then he rec'd his 'mueller pardon' and I lost faith in justice being rendered, the bloviating windbag's 'no collusion' chant emboldened. I suspect this was a trend amongst other democrats and truth seekers - while maybe not a cancellation of cable per se, but a cancellation of interest in liberal reporting of mueller, due to the letdown it created amongst us.
So it's the right wing happy time I think a good reason in part, for the surge in televised right wing nut jobs rise in ratings.
There's another factor I've noted for higher RW ratings, that some UNtelevised rightwing nut jobs & businesses will leave their cable tvs on to fox an inordinately high time during the day & even night (without really watching) compared with democrats like myself who more generally wouldn't do that since a tv uses power which increases your electric bill and wastes energy, rationale which generally means little to RWNJs and climate change deniers. This I believe would inflate ratings for right wing tv shows. But this has probably been 'de rigueur' for years, rather than mueller induced.
(I be lucky, my old time $60/month underground cable service you can cancel & reconnect at will if say you go on vacation, unlike dish & satellite which have long term year or two contracts at $80 rigid per month or so. Disconnecting for 5 months (till sept football season!) saves about $300 altho amanpour constant reruns & pbs newshour are, well, not really top of the line, but adequate enough for a daily news report. Anybody ever heard of 'Poldark', eh, not bad! forget 'atlantis' & 'jamestown' tho, not good....) Upside is, FREE.

Trump fatigue and summer activities competing for time. I don't think it more than that.

I agree. She's a well paid employee of a giant media conglomerate. Amy Goodman of Democracy Now

Perhaps viewers are tiring of her long-winded A segments, where she goes on and on
