We've generally gotten by without generators, by heading to higher ground, or used a jump box/inverter. Had to run equipment and generators out to folks in worse hit areas like Friendswood after Ike. Streets were a mess with trees and loud with generators - certainly fumes are a concern.

Really just wanted to mention the walkie talkies. Cell service was over taxed on routes out of Houston before Rita. And was inconsistent after Ike - loaned out a set of two ways so they could run errands and stay connected.

Sooo, now's the time to dust them off, charge, and test them. Or pick some up while gathering supplies. I just like having a set for hurricanes.
