(27,794 posts)For over a week we'll have had Dorian on our radar before we even begin to feel the effects of the storm. Yes it's good to have lead time to prepare, but each day your anxiety builds. I would put floods in this category as well. For days you hear the rivers are going to rise. You do the best you can to prepare and evacuate if necessary.
Earthquakes and tornados are no less devastating, but rarely are you aware of the impending disaster. They just happen with little or no warning. You're left with the event and the clean up after. You buckle down and tackle the cleanup. But hurricanes extract every bit of anxiety out of you before they hit. And if you end up directly in the path, you too are left with the aftermath but completely worn out mentally.
Not saying I would rather an earthquake or tornado, just saying the toll it takes on your sanity is altogether different.
